never say never! The correct word is “rarely”.

Regarding Hedy, i heard her story about a decade ago and was blown away. Amazing, intelligent and courageous person. Darned pretty too.

Hollyweird attempting to transform their terrible image and reach back to their smart and glory days?

What next? A movie about all of the support H’wood gave to the WWII effort?

And she gave away her patent royalties to the government, to support the war effort.

“Hadley Lamar

Know the difference.”

Fortunately, one has a mustache and the other does not...helps to distinguish them. Paying the mustache no mind, people could confuse them. Thanks for the tip.

“”She’s always looked a lot like Vivien Leigh to me.””

She did but even more like the first wife of the Shah of Iran who was Egyptian. Amazing resemblance and great story behind that marriage.

Our parents took us to lots of movies in the 40’s when we were kids and I don’t recall a movie with Hedy Lamar but I do recall the many movie magazines my sisters and I poured over and she was always prominent in them. We thought she was gorgeous but knew nothing about her inventions. I didn’t know about that until I looked her up to see if I was right in thinking the Shah’s first wife looked just like her.

OK - smart alecks. I’ll beat you to it. The Shah of Iran wasn’t Egyptian...his first wife was...I could have worded it differently..

If it were not for the ‘parody rights’, Blazing Saddles would owe a lot of money to the real McCoy, Hedy Lamarr. Grant you that it was a different world in the tween-war period, but Hedy, the actress, showed true grit in going from a probably exploited teenager in eastern Europe cinema to a high-level star in Hollywood from the late 1930s to the 1950s. At a time when Hollyweird ‘cocks a snoot’ at patriotism, it is good to remember those who walked the walk like Ms Lamarr!

LOL, freepers hold other freepers to high standards of grammar and English composition. I guess because most of us are so old that we learned these useless skills in school, along with cursive and math.

Hedy Lamarr Quotes and Sayings

“Any girl can be glamorous. All you have to do is stand still and look stupid.”

“I find very often that very ugly women have really handsome men and vice versa because they don’t have any competition. Sometimes handsome men have avoided me.”

“I think women are concerned too much with their clothes. Men don’t really care that much about women’s clothes. If they like a girl, chances are they’ll like her clothes.”

“Perhaps my problem in marriage-and it is the problem of many women-was to want both intimacy and independence. It is a difficult line to walk, yet both needs are important to a marriage.”

“Men are most virile and most attractive between the ages of 35 and 55. Under 35 a man has too much to learn, and I don’t have time to teach him.”

“The ceremony took six minutes. The marriage lasted about the same amount of time though we didn’t get a divorce for almost a year.”

“I have never seen a wrestling match or a prize fight, and I don’t want to. When I find out a man is interested in these sports, I drop him.”

“Making pictures, for an actress, is like betting, for a gambler. Each time you make a picture you try to analyze why you won or lost.”

“That’s how it always is in the entertainment industry, your feet are always treading Jello.”

“The public pays and feels it is entitled to participate in the personal affairs of a performer.”

“The ladder of success in Hollywood is usually a press agent, actor, director, producer, leading man; and you are a star if you sleep with each of them in that order. Crude, but true.”

“It is easier for women to succeed in business, the arts, and politics in America than in Europe.”

“I often talked to Bing Crosby, and while I liked him, I never understood why he was so popular. To me his voice was just a gimmick.”

“The world isn’t getting any easier. With all these new inventions I believe that people are hurried more and pushed more... The hurried way is not the right way; you need time for everything - time to work, time to play, time to rest.”

“A good painting to me has always been like a friend. It keeps me company, comforts and inspires.”

“[Suggesting her epitaph:] This is too deep for me.”

There is a story on that and I read something on it. I think she sued Mel Brooks and Warner Brothers on that and may have gotten some kind of settlement.

Found it on Wikipedia: Hedy Lamarr sued Warner Bros., charging that the film’s running parody of her name infringed on her right to privacy. Brooks said he was flattered; the studio settled out of court for a small sum and an apology for “almost using her name.” Brooks said that Lamarr “never got the joke.”[18]
