So we are to believe that the President called the grieving widow of an American soldier and intentionally said something designed to hurt or disrespect she or her deceased husband at the time of his memorialization?
Absurd. At the most, you can accuse him of being inarticulate and clumsy but not ill-intentioned or spiteful. This is nothing more than some folks wanting publicity, money and a cheap shot at a white American president.
He was a Green Beret, and didn't sign up for combat? Really?
I cant say for certain either, but he apparently got through special forces training and was assigned to some hell hole in Africa. So I am going to give him benefit of the doubt.
In 90% of the cases Blackness comes first and I would venture even in today’s military
I would like to see the voting statistics for Black miiitary members from the 2016 election
I suspect that things may have been taken out of context.
I suspect the concept of context will be as understandable as particle physics in these quarters. Perversion of meaning for financial gain will be comfortably familiar to the congresscritter. I suspect it didn’t take much coaching.
I think that President Trump needs to stop this in its tracks.
Trying to “prove” what was said will make him seem mean and gains nothing.
I think he needs to publically apologize to the wife and mother for anything they may have construed as negative. It was never his intention to cause more upset. He should also personally send both the wife and mother flowers with a note.
He will be the bigger man. He cannot win this argument against a grieving mother and wife. Ignore that nasty congresswoman too. Get her out of the loop.
Too late for that. The Congresswoman and mom already made it personal.
I would like to hear from military folks what they think about this. I can understand circumstances where this is affirming the sacrifice, that he gave his life willingly in the highest traditions of the service. I suspect that was the intended context and once again the racial divide gets wider than ever as this takes on a life of its own. Does this make sense? Do others see it this way?
It looks like he served very honorably. While he wasn’t a Green Beret he was in a support unit with additional qualifications earned not typical for most mechanics http://abcnews.go.com/International/soldiers-killed-niger-ambush-identified/story?id=50326955 Remember there is a family in shock especially his wife and a congresscritter who seems to want to exploit them for political gain.
Exactly. This is the perfect case for I am sorry if anything I said added to your sorrow (offended you). It would surprise many on the left.
A Green Beret? After we’ve been in a war footing in the middle east since 2003?
Really?
Some points to consider: 1) Frederica Wilson, AKA Maxine Waters with a microscopically higher IQ, has repeatedly called for Trump’s impeachment; 2) the statement, “he knew what he was signing up for” is open to interpretation; it can be a slam or it can mean he forged ahead courageously in spite of knowing what the risks were, making him a hero; to discern the meaning, we usually look to the statement right before this one and to the one right after it; 3) Wilson has chosen to withhold that vital information; 4) Myesha is being callously used by wilson and will be dumped once her use ceases to benefit wilson politically.
I was disrespected The buzzword of the demographics of the grievance industry populations.
“Cowanda? Srsly?”
Are they black?
“It sounds like its due to an education gap/ blacks that are easy to offend type situation.”
Yes, we disrespect by merely being white.
“I would like to hear from military folks what they think about this”
I’m not military, my son was. I had a couple occasions where people launched into a “I hate Bush” tirade when they learned that my son was killed at age 20. I have no use for that crap. One, a local high school teacher, I cut short by quoting bits and pieces from the autopsy report. Shut her up real quick.
Anyway, I’ve met/corresponded with/talked to probably 150 fellow Gold Star family members over the years. Tight-knit group, proud of their troops and their service. I have heard of a few examples of some who “went over the top”, but no personal experience.
Do bears...............
In fact, Trump got slammed for not calling sooner, but has said he prefers to call a little later, to give families some time. I try to put myself in the position of having a son or daughter in the military, KIA, or killed in an accident, etc., and that's certainly the way I'd want it. It also gives a better chance for the President to more correctly / fully know what the circumstances were, and tailor his consolations accordingly.
