Pope urges world to tackle migration crisis with 'love'

Pope Francis marked UN World Food Day on Monday with a call for world governments to act together to fight the hunger, conflicts and climate change driving mass migration from the developing to the industrialized world.

In a speech to the global body’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Francis said love rather than pity should be placed at the heart of international development efforts, and threw his weight behind efforts in the UN to negotiate a global accord on managed, safe migration.

“Is it too much to ask to think of inserting the concept of love into the language of international cooperation,” Francis said in a speech that was greeted with a standing ovation. “We cannot limit ourselves to pity, because pity stops with emergency aid while love inspires justice and is essential to create a just social order,” Francis said.

Francis cited the Paris climate change accord as an example of what could be achieved if governments worked together, while bemoaning that some were now “distancing themselves from it” — an apparent swipe at US President Donald Trump. …

The Pope is right to say we must fight what is driving mass migration but he failed to list some major causes: ignorance, and greed and sloth. The first is the ignorance of Jesus Christ among the Muslims. This has caused them to create failed societies from which they wish to flee; poverty that is of their own making. The second two flow from this, greed and sloth: the desire to take what belongs to another rather than working within one’s own society to produce these goods. The answer to both it evangelization: teaching them the true faith and the moral values that accompany it. Instead of inviting them to the West, where in sufficient numbers they will only recreate the failed societies they are fleeing, send missionaries to their countries to bring them the truth.

You simply cannot have 80% of the world’s population living on 20% of the land.

Yo, Frank !
Have we missed the news about your liquidating a few billion in church assets in pursuit of that just social order ?

Every time this hypocritical meathead opens his yap, more failed socialist bile spews forth.

On evangelization, I would agree with you. However, it seems the Pope uses a different (and more abstruse) definition:

Vatican City, Sep 29, 2017. On Friday, Pope Francis said that the work of evangelization belongs to all people, and that the richness found in a variety of traditions can be a way of opening people’s hearts to the Gospel.
“The new stage of evangelization we are called upon to follow is certainly the work of the whole Church, ‘people on the way to God,’” he said Sept. 29. Evangelization “by its very nature belongs to the People of God.”
Referencing the Second Vatican Council document Lumen gentium, he said, “From every population to which we go, a wealth emerges which the Church is called to recognize and value to bring about the unity of ‘all mankind’ of which it is the ‘sign’ and ‘the sacrament.’”
Pope Francis’ speech was part of a meeting with around 60 members of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization, at the conclusion of their plenary session Sept. 27-29.

The ABC Good Morning America version is only 1 hour long, not 2. IUt originates in NYC, and I live in the Pacific time zone.

They ran an item on their ‘ticker’ this weekend about Pope Francis.

With their usual perfection. the ticker ran with this:

Pop Francis......”

No one changed it at all. The grammar errors & spelling errors at a National level on the TV is awful.

I went to a one room school in rural Wisconsin. We learned much better than that. I would NOT exchange that education for ANYTHING available today. 8 grades-—14 kids—2 outhouses out back & NO running water. Water was brought in every school day in a milk can.

I wonder how much the people get paid that put the items on the ticker???

Also- ALL the news items this weekend talked about the elderly Texas couple who followed their GPS directions & got lost & stranded in Utah.

The story headline ran: Elderly couple found on stranded Utah road.

I have seen lots of roads in my 78 years. I have never seen one single road that was ‘stranded’. Those roads wee right where they were built.

I am pretty sure it should have said ‘stranded couple’.....or ‘found stranded’ ......But that story ran everywhere all weekend long.

When John Paul became pope, I began to read his remarks from his Wednesday audiences in the Wanderer. He was clear and unwavering and inspiring.

I can't read the stuff that Frankie says, it just gives me a headache.

Love starts at home Frank - time to let your ‘muslim brothers and sisters’ camp out at your place there in Vatican City.

Love would entail fixing these basket-case countries that these people come from. It is not physically possible for all 7 billion to come here.
