It’s Past Time to Rethink Modern Sexual Morality
nationalreview.com ^ | David French

A morality based only on consent results in sexual oppression.

Last week, as the grotesque Harvey Weinstein sexual-assault scandal burst into public view, I was struck by this tweet, from my friend Andrew Walker:

So much cultural & personal hurt due to sexual sin. Maybe the church should see its sexual ethics as a gift of common grace to the world.
— Andrew T. Walker (@andrewtwalk) October 10, 2017
Is there any issue that the church has been more defensive about — and retreated more from — than its biblical sexual ethics? Time and again the message to the culture is “join us anyway.” Or, worse, the message to members of the church has been “You don’t really have to obey.” The church retreats, and the sexual revolution advances.

But why retreat? As we can now see with blinding clarity, the alternative sexual morality is oppressive. It’s destroying lives.

...On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life
(Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife)
Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said:
“The Wages of Sin is Death.”

I don’t have knowledge of the typical Catholic or Christian church in America on this topic. Is the church really silent on this issue?

It’s going to be fun watching Europe rethink modern sexual morality once the Muslims have completed their conquest!

Yes! By all means, we must undermine the foundation of civilization, the binary family. And we must encourage STD’s, all in the name of personal sensual gratification.

ME! ME! ME! ME! ME!....OOOOOHHHHH....MY GOD!!!! THAT FELT SO GOOD! Whats your name again?

It depends on the church.

I can’t and won’t speak of what the RCC is doing, because I’m not Catholic. The mainline Protestant churches (UMC, TEC, PCUSA, ELCA, UCC, ABC, and one other, but I forget what it is) are not only silent, they are actively pursuing culture over scripture to maintain “relevance”. The more hardcore scripture-based denominations are constantly accused of intolerance for their strong stand on biblical morality.

Correct. Many churches I’m familiar with stick with biblical morality.

As an example, a few years ago, a friend of mine told me that he and his fiancé slipped up one time and she was pregnant.

She was afraid to go to church on the day that he was planning to stand up and confess his sin. I told him that while I hadn’t been going to that church too long, I suspected that as he said it, there would be a sharp intake of collective breath but the final outcome would be that the women of the church would wrap their arms around her and forgive her.

That’s exactly what happened. It’s not acceptance of the sin, but forgiveness and reconciliation.

Fast forward several years to a guy who had an affair. He was called out and urged to repent. I believe he has but has not returned to the church (yet)

I have a friend whose church is having a similar issue right now and they are not accepting it nor turning a blind eye.

Perhaps we should reconsider the ancient concept of sin. People used to be informed by the Bible to recognize the nature of sin, and its power to destroy the lives of individuals, societies and nations. When the knowledge of God and His ways is replaced by the sinful “wisdom” of men, destruction always follows. Always.

Marriage is a sentence in the Catholic church, you are stuck with your decision you made at age 20 or whatever

Yeah well, God hates divorce but doesn’t forbid it; and the adultery thing was so fathers could know with certainty who their kids are, after menopause, it doesn’t matter, now does it?

Am I not a different person than I was at age 25? If I now understand that people can relate in a fun supportive way and I don’t have to be a doormat in a relationship, do I have to stay stuck with my torturer?

Remember King David. God forgave him his adultery and other sins, but he and the people of Israel suffered the consequences - continued wars and suffering.

There are consequences of our actions. Why not be wise and do the righteous thing?

The bible says there will be wars and poverty anyway and nothing we can do to stop it, so staying celibate won’t have an effect

Why can’t you be just be you, changes and all, with your spouse? How are you being tortured inside your marriage?

I see a church constantly trying to entice new attendees with billboards of their new sermon coming up and it most often has a play on a sexual word or theme.

when a church is reaching out to the public like that (and it’s one of the 5-10k “member” churches in the area) they have already slipped to the opposite side of the bible message in my thinking.

I attended their Easter eve service over a decade ago they served hotdogs etc before hand. People not only had soda/water in church which was new to me back then, but the man next to me stepped out during the pastor’s message and came back in with another hot dog to eat! Like the one I saw he ate before service was not enough?
