Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is set to plead guilty Monday to charges he endangered comrades by walking away from his post in Afghanistan in 2009 -- the court case wrapping up just three years after a stunning Rose Garden spectacle in which former President Barack Obama, flanked by Bergdahl's parents, triumphantly announced the soldier's release from captivity.
Bergdahl was released in May 2014 after a highly-criticized deal in which five Taliban terrorists were set free. At the time, Obama administration officials said Bergdahl had "served with honor and distinction."
The misbehavior charge carries a maximum penalty of life in prison, while the desertion charge is punishable by up to five years.
Meanwhile, serious wounds to service members who searched for Bergdahl are expected to play a role in his sentencing. While guilty pleas would allow him to avoid a trial, he'd still face a sentencing hearing in late October.
Bergdahl's lawyers are expected to reveal in court Monday whether there's a plea agreement in place to cap his punishment, or if he's pleading guilty without such a deal in what's known colloquially as a "naked plea."
Legal scholars have said that several pretrial rulings against the defense have given prosecutors leverage to pursue stiff punishment against Bergdahl. Perhaps most significant was the judge's decision in June to allow evidence of serious wounds to service members who searched for Bergdahl at the sentencing phase. The judge ruled that a Navy SEAL and an Army National Guard sergeant wouldn't have wound up in separate firefights that left them wounded if they hadn't been searching for Bergdahl.
The defense also was rebuffed in an effort to prove President Donald Trump had unfairly swayed the case with scathing criticism of Bergdahl.

However, I'm perplexed why AG Sessions has not convened a Grand Jury for Hillary's many counts of breach of national security. The evidence is there. Even Comey the Clown said so in his first presser. I was amazed that he went point by point and thinking, WOW, Hillary is finally to get her just dues. Then he parsed the "gross negligence" into "extreme carelessness" and made the remark of "no intent", which is not within statute. Go to Websters and you see synonyms for "extreme" and "carelessness" that include "gross" and "negligence". I did.
Comey was bought off or threatened. It was no surprise to me when President Trump fired him. Sorry for going off topic. However, it's relevant to as why Sessions hasn't pursued the Hillary/Comey/Bill/Lynch connection and hasn't pursued indictments. And what happened to the Clinton Foundation pay-for-play investigation? I believe Sessions a bad appointment by the President.

YUP. The same Obama flunky that said 5 times in one day that the cause of Benghazi was a simple protest in response to some obscure video that no one heard of. The survivors have repeatedly stated the attack was pre-planned. I saw the interview with 3 of the CIA ex-military contractors and they ALL said it had to be planned due to the large number of armed enemy. Even the fair Hollywood movie, "13 Hours:Secret Soldiers" showed it was pre-planned by one SEAL statement the mortar rounds had specific coordinates on the compound.
What I still don't understand is why it took so long for a few Delta types to get there from Tripoli. Of course the incident wouldn't have occurred if Obama and Hillary hadn't decided to depose Gaddafi in their quest to extend the "Arab Spring". Thank god, Egypt got rid of Obama's Muslim Brotherhood puppet Morsi after their "Arab Spring". Shows what a military coup can accomplish if for the right reasons. Think American Revolutionary War.
