Trump could actually make Americans feel sorry for the media
NY Post ^ | October 15, 2017 | Post Editorial Board

President Trump has a legitimate beef with the coverage he’s getting from much of the news media. But his latest response to that coverage could make his press critics look like the victims.

The president was furious over an NBC News report that he’d once demanded a ten-fold increase in the US nuclear arsenal. He denied the story, saying it’s “frankly disgusting the way the press is able to write whatever they want to write.” So far, so good. But then he started making what sound like threats: “Network news has become so partisan, distorted and fake that licenses must be challenged and, if appropriate, revoked.”

Of course, TV networks (unlike individual stations) aren’t licensed, so there’s nothing to revoke. And the print press, which he’s also railed against, is protected by the First Amendment. But it still sounded like a president threatening to use federal power to close down outlets that cross him — which would be tyranny, and a violation of his oath to “preserve, protect and defend” the Constitution.

Trump certainly isn’t the first president to rail against the media, both publicly and privately. But he has more cause: The Pew Research Center found that two-thirds of the network news stories during Trump’s first 60 days in office were negative — double to triple the rate of the last three prior presidents. And only 5 percent were positive.

It hasn’t let up. Notably, every day’s Washington Post and New York Times bring multiple hits on the chief executive and his administration — and the tone is growing more hysterical.

But here’s the thing: The press has clearly turned so venomous out of frustration — because all the nonstop attacks have had so little effect.

Americans will start feeling sorry for the media about the same time pigs start learning to fly. The Post Editorial Board is delusional.

I would be satisfied with just revoking White House credentials from networks that published blatantly false and derogatory comments.

They can use the same pool reporting all the smaller news sources do.

I don’t know.

I have been out of the media spin now for a year. I was back in America to vote for Trump, but have otherwise been watching Vietnamese television for the last year. Or more accurately, I have not really been watching a great deal of television.

Now I am back in the states, I have clicked on my cable television and REPULSED basically, with what I am seeing. Every single channel, is the same repetitive CR@P.

With the exception of Fox. I saw a very, very, very good program just now on Fox. However otherwise I really am not even interested. To heck with it.

One can get news from the Internet. I do not even need a television.

(end of editorial rant)

If President Trump is a big success the MSM may wander in the wilderness for 40 years.

Perhaps Trump should have tweeted: “Maybe I should study further some of President Lincoln’s actions with regard to the Press.”

That’ll get their panties in a wad...

delusional New York Post.

What did the article say that is delusional, untrue, or objectionable?

My answer would be that the article appears to draw a line between print and electronic media. There is no such line.

the snowflakes at the NY Post have been hitting the LSD hard again, haven’t they?

I will never feel sorry for the American Media. The MSM have

built up a lot of bad karma and that chicken is coming home to

roost. LOL

I will bring the Coca-Colas if another FReeper brings the popcorn!

I really doubt we're in much danger of any broad swing in sympathy in favor of the hysterical malevolence of the media. There are things a normal person simply can't sympathize with. And while it is true that Trump has found an unfiltered medium in Twitter, it is pathetic that the unrelenting hostility of the other media have forced him to. All that hostility will garner is hostility in return, not sympathy.

But it is high entertainment to see a single figure eviscerate the legion of his opponents 140 characters at a time from the privacy of his hand-held device. These are, after all, the people Twain described as purchasing ink by the barrel, the lords of the airwaves and press, high, puissant, and unchallengeable. Well, they used to be. Now they look like jackasses. Anyone who doesn't find that funny has no sense of humor at all.

Real good feel good online news.

It is a bit over the top but fun with a cup of joe and a scmeared bagel in the morning.

Keyboard warning. Their titles to new news can be... well not allowed in a SJW safe room.

Trump is just pointing out principles of an accountable society.

If that is threatening to some, it’s likely because they are on or are in agreement with those not wanting to have to be accountable.

Accountability is needed in every good relationship of any kind.

I already feel sorry for them, as I would any sucker who paid a lot of money for a useless degree and believes a bucket full of lies and thinks they still matter in a world of free flowing information.

They are the buggy whip makers of the 20th century.
