Chill in the air as McConnell sets to sit down with Trump

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump blames the Senate’s GOP leader for the health overhaul failure, hints at tantalizing deals with Democrats and watches his former strategist work to bulldoze the Republican establishment on Capitol Hill.

There’s no need for air conditioning at the White House with that chill in the air when Trump, a public official since January, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, first elected to Congress in 1984, meet on Monday.

“Mitch McConnell’s not our problem. Our problem is that we promised to repeal and replace Obamacare, and we failed. We promised to cut taxes and we have yet to do it,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., a member of Congress since 1995. “If we’re successful, Mitch McConnell’s fine. If we’re not, we’re all in trouble. We lose our majority and I think President Trump will not get re-elected.”

Steve Bannon, back at Breitbart News after helping Trump win the presidency and serving in the West Wing, is committed to dumping McConnell, R-Ky. In a speech to religious conservatives Saturday, Bannon put on notice some of those incumbents who are at risk of a challenge from his flank of the party. He said the lawmakers possibly can avoid that wrath if they disavow McConnell and meet other conditions.

“This is our war,” Bannon said. “The establishment started it. …You all are gonna finish it.”

Sen. Susan Collins, a Maine moderate who just passed up a run for governor and was a pivotal “no” vote on health care, said Bannon’s rhetoric is exactly what the American people are tired of. “They don’t want this hyper-partisanship. They want us to work together. And they want us to get things done,” she said.

Oh, Miss Collins, I do want hyper-partisanship, and I want it done most brutally as well.

McConnel has a “F” rating conservative review liberty score.

He is next to

Paul Ryan
John McCain

All are very liberal, coast to next election, do nothings.

Flimsey Grahamesty is wrong as usual. They are in trouble and many will be Cantorized because they sided with illegal aliens and their employers.
President Trump will be fine if he sticks with the citizens and the rule of law.

Looks like Trump's trying to break McConnell's thumb.

Insinuating what, the president is inferior? Subordinate to the senate "leader"?

The “natives are getting restless,” as they say. The Republican base has worked to put Republican majorities in both the House and Senate, while McConnell and his gang repeated the mantra that their hands were tied unless the House, Senate, and presidency were in Republican hands. The people did their job, despite the dirty tricks McConnell and his gang of miscreants played on grassroots conservatives,

To understand Mitch McConnell is to understand two things: his zeal for winning elections for squish moderates at all costs and his view that Senate rules are the only thing that sets the Senate apart as a superior institution, superseding all others. Having McConnell in leadership means that nothing whatsoever of substance will ever be done on his watch.

“Mitch McConnell’s not our problem. Our problem is that we promised to repeal and replace Obamacare, and we failed..."

...because of Mitch McConnell's duplicitous management of the Senate agenda and his inability to control his caucus.

I'm beginning to think that McConnell has the attention span of a dog. No matter how badly he poops on the Republican agenda, he's happily wagging his tail when he gets to preen with the President in front of the cameras.

It's all about the attention with McConnell, no matter if it's for good or bad reasons.

It’s been repealed for all practical purposes. Time for Congress to act or quit and go home. I’m tired of being lied to by politicians running for office.
