The tyranny of the anecdote: if leftists can find one poor slob who benefits from their idiotic policies, it’s enough to defeat incontrovertible logic, moral truth and human nature.

Not only that. I have family in BC. The Ministry of Health are vindictive pricks. They even punish ANY Canadian from crossing the border with penalties if you access US healthcare. You can only go to the US if you purchase the vacation insurance (additional) and only in an emergency. The word emergency’ is vague.

I’m an 85 year old woman and stopped having routine mammograms 10 years ago.

I felt that it was a waste of time for me.

A lot of people my age have voluntarily stopped some routine tests.

There seemed to be way too much “We don’t know what it was” in that story

Don’t listen to this asshat.

I’m from Canada too. Moved down to the US in 1995.
I’ve got a far different view.
My sister, who has Cerebral Palsy, can walk, but her left angle has begun turning inwards, making it so she is walking on her ankle.
She has been waiting 18 months to see a specialist. No appointment yet.

After routine surgery, my mother developed complications, and as a tragic complication was left with minimal brain activity.
No death panels - the on duty staff decided her fate.
First, they cut off her feeding tube.
Then, they cut off her water.
Then, they cut off her oxygen.
When I demanded to know why, the on duty nurse stated, “we need the bed”.

Canada’s health care is great if you need to fix a broken arm, or get a cut stitched up.

But for anything serious, you’re screwed.

What good is “free” healthcare if you die?

Canadian doctors are far more inclined to tell their patients to lose weight, get more exercise, avoid certain foods, and pay more attention to their own health.

As someone who's been on both sides of the stethoscope here in the US (as a hospital administrator *and* a patient...see Post #20) I can guarantee you that that's the standard of care here as well.A big part of the problem is that all-too-many of us fail to heed such advice.

Just watched a vlog about a family in Nova Scotia. Their eighteen month old daughter fell and got a very bad gash in her forehead. They took her to the nearest hospital, and were told to go to Children’s Hospital a half hour away. There they waited five hours to see a doctor.

One thing to keep in mind on talking about Universal Health care, all of the Western European Nations have had it since the end of W.W. II. So the cost of implementing it were pretty low and it now it is an established institution.

For us to do the same thing in today's world would be a huge cost. If it will cost California somewhere around $400 Billion in just that state, then how much nationwide. Several Trillion Dollars Maybe? Then how to pay for it, California is talking about adding a 13% wages tax.

Sounds beautiful and Utopian until those pesky details of how to pay for it and implement it.

I just want a reliable source for this...

THis look like a fairly detailed study (clickable):

.... patients travelling abroad to receive medical treatment may relate to the long waiting times they are forced en - dure in Canada’s health care system. In 2015, patients could expect to wait 9.8 weeks for medically necessary treatment after seeing a specialist—almost 3 weeks longer than the time physicians consider to be clinically “reasonable” (7.1 weeks).

Todays doctors, if they work for a Hospital system, are expected to see 45 patients a day. When I go, I am lucky if my doctor gives me 15 to 20 minutes. I almost have to do my own diagnosis before I go.

One story does not a system make.

I’m certain many have had a pleasant experience with the VA, however the guy who called the suicide hotline to be put on hold is now dead.

Canada’s health care is great if you need to fix a broken arm, or get a cut stitched up.

I got my hand stitched-up at one of these MedExpress clinics for $225.00. And it healed-up beautifully. Is $225 really worth all the hassles?

When you live in Mommy’s attic it’s easy to give away all sorts of stuff.
I wish President Trump would send Trudeau a bill for all of the de-facto National Security we’ve been supplying our Northern neighbors.

And the US acts as a release valve to the Canadian system. When they come here for help they cannot get in Canada, they are artificially propping up the system. If the US was not on the border, they would be forced to deal with those horrid situations.
