ABC News: Mandalay Bay didn't call police when security guard was shot by Stephen Paddock

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) - Mandalay Bay staff did not call Las Vegas police until after Stephen Paddock had already begun firing on the concertgoers, according to "World News Tonight" on ABC.

Their information comes from an anonymous source who has reviewed records from the hotel-casino.

According to the report, Mandalay Bay staff did not call police when security guard Jesus Campos reported internally that someone was shooting on the 32nd floor. Nor did they call police when building engineer Stephen Schuck also reported internally that someone was firing at him on the 32nd floor.

About six minutes after shots were fired inside the hotel, Paddock began firing outside at the crowd, according to Sheriff Joe Lombardo.

MGM Resorts spokesperson Debra DeShong wrote in a statement on Tuesday that the company does not believe this timeline is accurate:

This remains an ongoing investigation with a lot of moving parts. As evidenced by law enforcement briefings over the past week, many facts are still unverified and continue to change as events are under review. We cannot be certain about the most recent timeline that has been communicated publically, and we believe what is currently being expressed may not be accurate.

We understand the public’s desire for information and the importance of getting our community and the public at large the information they deserve, and we are doing everything we can to support law enforcement’s efforts to do so. Therefore, it is not appropriate for us to comment further at this time on what remains an open matter for law enforcement.

Las Vegas police say they'll have an updated and more complete timeline on Friday.

Why would Paddock shoot anyone inside the hotel first?

Had he already broken out the windows and knew there was no turning back?

I don’t think “beyond” is the right word.

Las Vegas is depraved, is what I’m thinking. Well, it’s accepted as a joke, isn’t it? But now nobody’s laughing.

All I keep hearing from day one about Vegas is “that we may never know”.

That could turn out to be a true statement. We may never know why he did it. Some will hope they can find some political or religious angle to hang this on. But that may not work out for them.

Initially, I had not paid close attention to this entire case. Busy with work and church and other things. When the story broke Monday with the massive correction, I started looking a lot more closely. Here are a few things that jump out at me looking at it as it stands right now.

1. That was a MASSIVE correction to the narrative. And it shines a spotlight on Mandalay Bay security in a BIG way. Why was the first story put out, and who was responsible? Who pushed the official revision to be made, LVPD or Mandalay Bay?

2. Automatic weapons fire in a hallway doesn’t merit a call to the Las Vegas PD?

3. In the Las Vegas paper today, the maintenance man was quoted as saying he was up to investigate an Emergency Door Ajar Alarm. Don’t believe in coincidences. That is another BIG piece of info.

4. Why was the 2nd window broken? That was an extremely poor angle to shoot from, and gave absolutely no help to the shooter to fire on the venue.

5. Two rifles with bi-pod arms extended. Why? The angle is way too steep for him to use those laying on the floor. and there was nothing for him to prop the legs on in the photo.

5. Why the 6 minute delay (if true)? His element of surprise has been lost. It is almost like the shooter was waiting for a specific time to start shooting.

7. Go to Google Earth and draw a 1000 yard Arc from the 2nd window and see what all that encompasses. Why 1000 yards? That is within easy sniper distance. What is in that Arc? Most all of the McCarron International Airport charter and general aviation hangar area and parking lot. When an extremely VIP flies into Vegas, they fly into this side on their own plane.

I’m not advocating that is what happened. But the massive change in the timeline opens up a LOT of other possibilities. Item #6 fits a narrative that explains a lot of the inconsistencies of the evidence presented thus far.

Night clubs don’t like to be mentioned in newspapers, either. It was Las Vegas, people. Think about that.

Regarding the 6 minute delay, the shooter may have wanted to wait to shoot until everyone in the crowd was leaving, using the press at choke point entrance to create an even greater number casualties - and have easier shots into packed crowds coming toward him through the exits.

He may have waited only 6 minutes and decided he didn’t have time, after what happened in the hallway, to wait any longer because he was afraid the alarm would be sounded and his time was short.

the campos residence had a late model red stingray parked on the driveway.

no one from the campos family came out to talk with laura. there was a security guard from OnScene posted outside but he could not release any information, redirecting questions to LV police.

I heard someone say yesterday that those windows at hotel would have had breakage sensors. Anyone know if that is true? If it is, why did hotel not investigate?

Why did he need a hammer to break the windows out anyway?

He had guns.

And if he had already fired 200 rounds through the door, he can just shoot out the windows. Once you let loose 200 rounds, the game is afoot.

Yeah, the video is interesting.

I watch her twitter....she’s pretty good at going after a story. Better than the MSM. I didn’t see any of them there.

I think he told them on his radio what was going on and told them to call 911.

Everything I have seen and read about both the security guard and the building engineer only mentioned radio conversations. I am not sure they had phones with them and they may not have been able to or authorized to just call 911 without someone else making that decision, making that call.

That may be what caused the delay- getting the right person to authorize calling 911. That can happen if the place has their own security or their own police department; they do not normally call actual law enforcement, so there can be a delay when they need to.

It is hard to tell what the truth is, but if the MB didn’t call the police when their security guard was shot then the LVMPD actually responded pretty fast.

The other issue is the MB knew exactly what room the shooter was from their security guard and building engineer; yet the story is the LVMPD had no idea where the shooter was and had to figure it out when they arrived. If true that wasted a lot of valuable time while people were being shot.

I cant find the audio at the moment - but I swear - at least one version of the “Engineer’s” call - you can hear the person they are talking to - and they seem aware of the situation - and says something like “he’s on 32” - as if they are talking to someone else.

So for roughly 20 minutes LE had no idea where the shooter was exactly.

The thing is the Mandalay Bay staff knew exactly where the shooter was, from the radio calls from their security and building engineer that were in that hallway. The MB staff knew exactly which room they had a shooter in and had not passed on that information?

I was very critical of the LVMPD response, I thought they had been called earlier, and told the info the MB staff had as to location.

Has anyone seen a reference to when the MB staff called LVMPD? This scanner transcript does not refer to a call from MB staff or any information from them. LVMPD response seems to be entirely based on reports of shots fired at the festival. LE were not even sure where shots were coming from when they responded.

Reading this, it is as if there had been no communication with MB staff.

The smoking gun will be the time the MB staff called LVMPD to report to them they had a shooter. I see no reference to any such call in the transcripts.
