Bill Maher doesn’t know what he is talking about. Consider that the Second Amendment was written and ratified in the 18th Century. Then consider that the Emancipation Proclamation was made in the 19th century. How does an intelligent man conclude that the Second Amendment was written and passed to enforce slavery? Bill Maher is a jackass. He makes statements like this to stir people up. He doesn’t care that they don’t make any sense.
They have had think tanks trying to dismantle the constitution and the 2nd amendment for over one hundred years! They come up with new bullshit like this all the time.
Bill Maher is a smart man, so he knows he’s obfuscating and not clarifying.
That’s some high level historical ignorance, why did Northern States have militias then, eh, putz? Stop doing drugs, or better yet start doing harder drugs.
This “guy” needs to go. What a waste of space.
These weapons were not conceived of, we not understood, were imagined in the context of the time when the amendment was authored
Actually:
---
The first known ancestors of multi-shot weapons were medieval organ guns, while the first to have the ability to fire multiple shots from a single barrel without a full manual reload were revolvers made in Europe in the late 1500s. One is a shoulder-gun-length weapon made in Nuremberg, Germany, circa 1580. Another is a revolving arquebus, produced by Hans Stopler of Nuremberg in 1597.[6]
True repeating long arms were difficult to manufacture prior to the development of the unitary firearm cartridge; nevertheless, lever-action repeating rifles such as the Kalthoff repeater and Cookson repeater were made in small quantities in the 17th century. Another early revolving gun was created by James Puckle, a London lawyer, who patented what he called "The Puckle Gun" on May 15, 1718. It was a design for a manually operated 1.25 in. (32 mm) caliber, flintlock cannon with a revolver cylinder able to fire 6-11 rounds before reloading by swapping out the cylinder, intended for use on ships.[7] It was one of the earliest weapons to be referred to as a machine gun, being called such in 1722,[8] though its operation does not match the modern usage of the term. According to Puckle, it was able to fire round bullets at Christians and square bullets at Turks.[7] However, it was a commercial failure and was not adopted or produced in any meaningful quantity.
In 1777, Philadelphia gunsmith Joseph Belton offered the Continental Congress a "new improved gun", which was capable of firing up to twenty shots in five seconds; unlike older repeaters using complex lever-action mechanisms, it used a simpler system of superposed loads, and was loaded with a single large paper cartridge. Congress requested that Belton modify 100 flintlock muskets to fire eight shots in this manner, but rescinded the order when Belton's price proved too high. . .
Unfortunately, it won’t be the last. Now that some leftist scum has made up this “fact”, expect it to be in the next generation of schoolbooks, poisoning the minds of innocent youth just to pursue their agenda of totalitarian rule of the people.
Even slugs have a form of respiration. Bill, most of his inhaling is from his bong, and most of his exhaling is out of his a**.
Maher is trying to meld 2 different sets of events that are about 100 YEARS apart.
Sorta like comparing the Pony Express with the Concorde.
And in several States only after mobs had murdered the white & black Republicans elected to the State Legislature pretty much leaving no one brave enough to run as a Republican when the seats of the dead legislators were filled.
Talk about obeying "Massa", black folks voting democrat is an interesting study in self-destructive group psychology, massive government corruption, and proof of the fact that destroying normal, traditional, families always destroys the culture that practices it.
As Toynbee said, "Civilizations die from suicide, not by murder.". As I assess things, I figure the US is half way through the act of suicide having already cut one wrist and now madly sawing through the veins of the other wrist.

Thanks for the additional historical background.
