Playboy founder Hugh Hefner died Wednesday, aged 91. But his work of mainstreaming porn will likely live on—and continue to hurt men and women—for many years to come.
Playboy helped usher in an era of porn addiction, decreased happiness, and strained relationships between men and women.
Porn did of course exist before Hefner, and the internet—a technological innovation Hefner had nothing to do with—greatly accelerated the use of porn.
But what Hefner did was to bring porn out of the shadows, to make it something that could be discussed openly and without shame. Decades before the characters on “Friends” were cracking jokes about porn use, Hefner planted the seeds by creating Playboy magazine.

I know. I just felt like poking the hive.
My DH stated is too smart for this stuff. He figured what’s the point? I’m never going to meet any of these people. What’s the point of salivating over them? (Same goes for all the worship of stupid celebrities.) I’m never going to get any love from them, so no point diving into porn.
Many men really do want 1 woman. They don’t mind messing with others but they want one real love to care for them.
Not at all. I disagree most vehemently. The ONE group of men in this country that is most in line with your way of thinking is the RIGHT WING MAN. That's my point. We believe in the values that have brought civilization to the point it has come.
We believe in the so called "societal contruct" of male and female and understand the differences and roles that nature has for them.
It is the so called LEFT WING man who is tearing that all down. And this includes pimps like Hefner. Our perfect right wing man civilization is being derailed and he is one of the culprits. One of many, I might add.
When you shoot at the right wing men of free republic, you are firing in the tent.

No, oh god no. Hefner is a slimeball. He’s sticky. And gross. Flabby and despicable.
But women don’t care. If they did, then 96% of men would be single.
He’s got money and connections. And that’s what women find attractive. They don’t care about his shrinky-dink dingdong, the fact that he can’t dress (Seriously. A sailor suit? WTF is he clinically insane?) and he drips exploitative slime. He’s got money and connections and women will surround him and do whatever he tells them to do with 4 of their best friends.
Hugh Hefner is more an exercise of how low a woman can go.
But to be surrounded by the opposite sex, attractive and willing and all the while laughing at your every joke, thinking everything you say and do is genius gold ? Of course that’s a man’s desire.
Hugh Hefner is not what any man wants to be. He has what every man wants.
Real men don’t want Hefner’s world. Adolescent boys may think they do but once they mature into men and find a the woman God chose for them they see what a horrid vile lifestyle Hefner presented. It’s not that they lose appreciation for female beauty they just learn the true meaning of beauty. Of course not every man matures or knows God which prevents them from becoming the man God intended them to be.
Hefner contributed to it but to blame him for the moral degredation of society is too much of a stretch. His mags were never as sick as Hustler. I put more blame on the “experts” who invented open marriages, told spouses that cheating was normal and assaulted their patients and called it therapy,... The psychologist. That child molester Kinsey and his pseudoscientific “research” did vastly more harm than Hefner ever dreamed of.

I think Hefner was an evil man who did a lot of harm to society.
