I’ve seen it called a half-cane since the west side is so weak.That's a great description for this storm. Impressive how all of the convection is E to SE of the circulation. I suppose much is due to the fast forward movement.

Hurrican Katrina had a 30' high water surge from the gulf in Beloxi, Mississippi. It literally destroyed Beloxi!!! Of course, we know it also literally destroyed all the homes off their foundation east of N.O. all the way to Mississippi.
We know Hurrican Katrina destroyed the Levee system in New Orleans and this was the major factor in the flooding that followed in the N.O. area.
Of course, we got a lot of Louisiana Hurricane Katrina refugees here in Texas.
Some of you freepers may know this since some parts of N.O. are below sea level but I had to go to a shop at the lower end of N.O. and I did not say a thing when I saw a ship sailing not to far that was already above where I was standing. the only thing protecting us was the N.O. Levee system. I was sure glad to get out of N.O. and head on home back to Texas.
