Cedar Chopper...

Think white trash, river rats, lake trash, pulpwood haulers, trailer trash, or any other derogatory term you would like for poorly educated, low income white people.

The area west of Austin is full of cedar trees and rocks. In order to build on property full of cedar trees, someone has got to go in there and chop all those trees done. Hence the term Cedar Chopper.

It is also a tongue-in-cheek term used to describe people who live in the Austin suburb of Cedar Park.

An anthropological reference largely confined to Central Texas. Cedar choppers were itinerant workers who lived in camps near the cedar brakes in the Texas Hill Country during the early 20th century, carving out an existence by harvesting cedar (actually juniper) using hand tools. They were generally poor, uneducated and lacking in social grace. When they weren't living in the work camps, they were often guests of the local county jail. As a group, they were considered to be a lowly caste by city dwellers in Austin.

Urban Dictionary: Cedar chopper.
