Republicans introduce conservative DACA fix that offers path to citizenship

Two Republican senators have introduced a new bill that addresses the status of hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants known as Dreamers, potentially offering them a 15-year path to citizenship.

The bill, known as the SUCCEED Act, would also prevent recipients from sponsoring family members, an attempt to address concerns from immigration hawks and President Trump.

"This, I believe, is a fair and orderly method for providing a permanent solution for the DACA children," Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., told reporters today.

To be eligible, participants would have to pass a criminal background check and have a high school diploma or equivalent. They would also have to have been in the U.S. since June 15, 2012, and entered before the age of 16. To qualify, applicants would need to submit biometric and biographical data to the Department of Homeland Security. The SUCCEED Act would also require participants to pay off any tax liabilities and sign a waiver for future immigration benefits if they were to violate their status.

Under the proposal, Dreamers would have "conditional permanent residence" for 10 years before becoming eligible to apply for a green card, and that status could be renewed after five years. Dreamers would only be able to apply for citizenship after holding a green card for five years.

Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., said he spoke with President Trump about the proposal shortly after Trump decided to end the existing Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

Lankford told reporters the president had said of the SUCCEED Act: "'That's the right way to go.'"

Not true. There are lots of illegals and DACAs in the military. Over 300 enlisted in the Army in 2016. They enlist through special programs.

Trump will sign what they send.

Either kill it or fix it as best you can.

A stripped down “clean” DACA will be the easiest to kill, IMHO.

I seem to have forgotten how candidate Trump campaigned on a promise to sign the largest illegal alien amnesty in history.

Must be getting old.

I cant see how anyone can even take advantage of this bill with out committing crimes and not being caught....the bill has a 10 year period they can not legally work in the united states before getting a green card. this bill just muddies everything up...deport... deport... deport.

Mexican agent John McCain will no doubt vote for this bill or anything else that speeds the end of the USA that he loathes.

Hopefully AZ will get a chance soon to replace him with a patriot.

Real world translation:

A numerically limitless number of third world migrants will be able to stay in our homeland so long as they pay some fees and fill out some forms. Everything will be run by contractors, who make their money from cases completed, not by fraudulent cases detected. There will be no enforcement of the above "Bubba Bait".

The third world transformation of our homeland will be accelerated, not slowed by Donny Trump.

No, they do not.

It is why, after a lifetime of never missing an election, I purposely sat out the congressional portion of the 2016 election.

Congress does little of what it is supposed to do, and much of what it doesn’t have legitimate power to do.

Restore the senate to restore congress. Article V to repeal the 17th Amendment.

I live in SW OR. Legalized mj is utterly destroying our county. Utterly. I have posted comments about the massive problems being caused. Same thing over the border in N.CA.

Legalizing mj is the wrong thing to do in every way. Myths about how glorious it would be to legalize it are just that - myths aka “lies”.

There is a reason why Soros has always funded legalize mj efforts.

I’m FINE with Sessions going after pot. Wish the DEA would go after the 95% illegal growing operations here. The vast majority are not permitted/licensed, and gangs from Jamaica, Russia, Romania, Bulgaria and of course MX are now here and crime rate is skyrocketing. Many more problems as well.
