Two Republican senators have introduced a new bill that addresses the status of hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants known as Dreamers, potentially offering them a 15-year path to citizenship.
The bill, known as the SUCCEED Act, would also prevent recipients from sponsoring family members, an attempt to address concerns from immigration hawks and President Trump.
"This, I believe, is a fair and orderly method for providing a permanent solution for the DACA children," Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., told reporters today.
To be eligible, participants would have to pass a criminal background check and have a high school diploma or equivalent. They would also have to have been in the U.S. since June 15, 2012, and entered before the age of 16. To qualify, applicants would need to submit biometric and biographical data to the Department of Homeland Security. The SUCCEED Act would also require participants to pay off any tax liabilities and sign a waiver for future immigration benefits if they were to violate their status.
Under the proposal, Dreamers would have "conditional permanent residence" for 10 years before becoming eligible to apply for a green card, and that status could be renewed after five years. Dreamers would only be able to apply for citizenship after holding a green card for five years.
Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., said he spoke with President Trump about the proposal shortly after Trump decided to end the existing Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
Lankford told reporters the president had said of the SUCCEED Act: "'That's the right way to go.'"

Psst —all those ppl bellyaching about Sessions’ marinuana crackdown? It was PRECISELY a preemptive strike at Dreamers, saddling many with criminal records so that they can be deported with no argument when/if such amnesty bills are passed.
Begin by winnowing the 800k to 600k.

Anyone else notice a trend here?
It - the GOP DACA law - will be picked apart by Marxist/Progressive/Liberal activist lawyers and activist judges as unconstitutional because it discriminates against various “Dreamers” - does not cover 100% of all “Dreamers”, that is persons brought here illegally by their parents, no matter their year of arrival or their age.
IT WAS ALWAYS UNDERSTOOD even by the Obama administration with their DACA executive order, that DACA would be used by the layers and activist judicial friends to convert to its intended purpose - to a gateway that would be opened for all “Dreamers”, by judicial fiat.
Maybe the RINOS doing this are so stupid in the law that they fail to see the folly of attempting this legislation with the pretense that the limitations in their law will “minimize” the eligibility for DACA; but the activist judges will destroy myth.
Or maybe the RINOs are not fooled and think they are only fooling the people, particularly their own voters.
Current law prohibits illegal aliens from enlisting.
No new laws to benefit those breaking current law.
The original DACA required they have entered before the age of 16 in 2007 or earlier. This bill is for a much larger number than those already in DACA, which itself is illegal.
Amnesty of any kind will be used to get amnesty for many more, we will lose our country and the rule of law.

SOME DACA bill will emerge. Trump will sign.
We have one shot, which is to strip the bill of every “conservative” element and make it a pure DACA only. That MIGHT fail the House.
Barring that, you better extract every possible up front concession cuz something is likely to become law.
Trump should not even be discussing this until the WALL is 100% completed and he can prove to Americans that the flood of illegals is actually stopped. Until that happens nobody will trust promises of securing the border at some point in the future. The sainted Ronald Reagan fell for that promise and lived to regret it. This is the hill that Trump should die on. It’s what got him elected and what will get him re-elected in 2020 if he fulfills this promise. If he pushes through any form of soft amnesty without the WALL, the base will be turned off.
Even little Marco promised to end incursions before dealing with illegal aliens - NOPE, nothing before wall to seal off Southern border and period of time to make sure it's working.........before discussing legalizing anyone!
No WALL FUNDING - NOTHING!

What about those employers continuing to employ illegals - the illegals continue to get plenty of work hanging out at Home Depot and Lowes parking lots!
My fear is that Trump will sign whatever they send him.
This bill as introduced covers 2.5-3 million, not 800,000.
How do we then deport their parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.?
We won’t, another amnesty will follow and the rule of law will be dead.
There is nothing conservative about a DACA anything.
Trump said he’d end it on his first day in office and that is what he should have done.

This is interesting.
The penalty for illegal residence is 10 years before being allowed back. The residency requirement is 5 years before bei eligible for naturalization.
So, this 15 year "path to citizenship" seems to be the same path as normal, except without deportation. It's similar to my pardon plan, in that it removes the financial penalty but keeps the same time limits.
