They don’t care. These award shows aren’t for the American public; They’re made for themselves. Granted, they always have been but in the past they still wanted everyone to love and praise them. Now they don’t even care. If you don’t like them you’re considered one of ‘those’ people and they don’t want your eyeballs or money anyway.
That’s how arrogant they have become. They will make the shows they want to watch and enough people will watch them to keep things going. Screw anyone who disagrees. They’re all racists and homophobes anyway.
The song with words was never used in the TV series, although it was played in the movie. I also never heard the song played with words other than in the movie, with one exception. We visited a restaurant in Portugal, where they played the song with words. I thought that was probably because the restaurant owner didn’t know English and had no idea what the song was about.
I loved the TV series. But I do not think it is responsible for my decision to spend a career in Army Medicine.

Sad their hate is so strong instead of focusing on their accomplishments which the Emmys was meant to do they instead used the time to beat up and insult the President and his supporters. Apparently hatred overcomes all reason.
You realize that 11,300,000 out of 330,000,000 Americans is a “Death Knell” number of viewers. Hollywood and the “EMMY Awards” are dying, being killed by their very own words and actions. Sad!!! Keep it up Colbert and company.

Sadly this show will drag on for many more years due to America’s cult of personality affliction.
I haven’t watched this show or any like it in 40 plus years.
