Crews arranged by Dallas officials removed a statue of Robert E. Lee from a pedestal Thursday and carted it away from a park named for the Confederate general.

In an unannounced move, a large crane was brought through the city by a police escort to Lee Park, where it lifted the large statue from its pedestal late Thursday afternoon.

City officials said in a statement that an art conservator monitored the proper handling of the statue, and police tactical officers with automatic rifles provided security.

The statue was lowered onto a flatbed trailer for transport to an abandoned naval air station owned by the city on its western outskirts. It’s expected to remain there until city officials decide the statue’s future. …

Dallas is a Dem stronghold like Austin, Houston and San Antonio, as well as what I term a sanctuary city.

Worth repeating...

No, this is just a starter. The mayor will receive real honors if he removes another event that is more recent and much closer to Dallas and to Texas. Any item that refers to the assassination John F. Kennedy should be removed immediately and forgotten that it even happened to Dallas and Texas. The Mayor should be on a new high. This will please most Dallasites and most Texans. Long to be forgotten and now residing in ‘the park that eliminates unpleasant memories’. The Mayor may even receive a
Statue of what a great man he is. It can replace the former Statue of Robert W. Lee and all will be happy.

We’re the “automatic rifles” in the hands of all these “good cops” we keep hearing about?

Truly saddened to see this
This Dallas is not the Dallas to which I was born. How embarrassing the population has become to elect such infantile leaders.

Lee Park was once in an exclusive part of the city, beautiful area, a lovely place of respite. Unfortunately, this is now less than history.

“You don’t see the UK - yet - tearing down memorials to the Jacobites who were seen as rebels against the English Crown.”

That will happen soon enough when UK’s new immigrant population takes a notion. If the Lord tarries, the English will lose everything else too.

As a Texan I am ashamed.....too busy with work and life and not paying attention. This sh*t needs to stop.

Agree. Like I explained before, I am part of a network of friends that are monitoring this and not a peep that this was going to happen. Did any of us see this on FR that this was going to happen before it did?

Our governor needs to speak up for the great General Robert E Lee. He had many campaigns here in Texas prior to the war against Northern Aggression. Many battles against mexican intrusion from the South. He and Captain King were great friends and comrades in arms not only against the mexican intrusion but also hostiles. I believe it was Lee who gave Captain King the cannon that defended the ranch during the war of Northern Aggression and provided arms and training for troops to protect wagons going South to sell mostly cotton but other goods across the border to break the blockade.

Pray for Texas and get us out of this mess

KKK never wanted these statues, Lee was in their eyes a sell-out to the North.

I remember reading letters from southerners that were incredibly bitter towards Lee.

This is so ironic.

Amen to that; admiring those parents who do and siblings who have given me nieces and nephews and now must worry over them and where they fit into this new world in which we find ourselves. The UNTHINKABLE is now reality.

So what they did just now was not “unannounced” as the AP claims?

I know the intent was broadcasted, and there were movements against it.

I wish I could make little 12” Robert E Lee statues myself. I would sell thousands and crank them out like crazy. Every time these idiots destroy something we should replace it 1000x over.

We do need a timeline for that. People still have some memories of Dallas in particular being a good city.

This makes me SICK!

WHERE IS TRUMP !?!?!

WTH !

All this crap started under Obama, and the left pinned Trump in with all this Russia KKK nonsense, so now Trump can’t stand up against the removal of these monuments or repair relations with Russia.

The left is STILL destroying America in spite of the election!

Cell phone did not work well there.
