Two looters were stopped by Jacksonville police while attempting to steal a power pole in the wake of Hurricane Irma. The highly conspicuous thieves were caught red-handed with the pole on top of their SUV. The looters also attached a flag, made of what appears to be t-shirts, to the back of the pole for safety. It is not clear what they intended to use to pole for. Twitter users noted they would have struggled to sell it for recycling considering it is obviously a stolen power pole.

Selling power poles or anything else metal is easy at many scrap yards. If it is recognizable it goes to the compactor immediately.

LOL nice touch. Wouldn't want to make an amateur mistake like forgetting the caution flag when you're driving your SUV down the street with what's very obviously a power company's utility pole.

The scrap yards in Jacksonville are pretty scrupulous about buying things that might belong to the power company. They’ve dropped a dime quite a few times on people.
Thinking they figured since it was already on the ground, it was fair game. Closest thing I’ve seen to this was a guy riding down the road on a scooter somehow managing FOUR 2x4x8 wooden boards. I took a photo, but not sure how I’d post it here. Traffic was crawling due to drivers wanting to watch that....
The one here used to but has a different rep now.
Looters should be shot or hung if apprehended at the scene of the crime. It’s an entirely different scenario in a life or death emergency/societal crisis situationm akin to martial law. They are animals - nothing but animals. Yes, I saw the photo. Hang them.
The reason there are so many such comments is because we often don’t have to guess.
A lot of us study patterns and history.

These gentlemen probably found this pole in the street and loaded it to prevent somebody from running into it and causing an accident.
They were on their way to the closest utility yard to return it when they were stopped by the police.
It could have happened that way.
