The entire Florida Peninsula and points north are poised to experience Hurricane Irma after the storm hugged Cuba's northern coastline. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Hurricane Irma's prolonged interaction with Cuba diminished its strength to Category 3.
Irma is forecast to increase in strength as it crosses the FL Straits. The Florida Keys experienced strong outer bands while Irma grazed the N Cuba coastline.

Storm surge forecast for the Keys near Tampa.
Looks like everything from Siesta Key, through Longboat Key, up through Anna Maria Island is going to be completely under water.

Have you looked at shortwave radios? Many have models that also get AM and FM bands.

I think Tampa is going to get hammered.
We get 90 MPH burst winds here on occasion. I was getting ready to take the dog out when one blew up. The window on the sliding door bowed in. Very bizarre. The good thing is modern window glass is tempered so it won’t become a bunch of shrapnel. The bad thing is when the let go, it will be like n explosion
I picked up a small Grundig FR-200 radio that gets the FM, SW2, SW1 and AM bands.
Runs on batteries plus has a hand crank dynamo that will power the radio for about 30 minutes.
As a bonus it has a little LCD light that will chase away some of the darkness.
No matter what people think about the highways out, they forget about the twisted tangle of side streets that get people from their homes to the highways. I know people who spent hours just going two blocks during the Rita evacuation.

Bugged out from Tampa Bay Area - mandatory evacuation Zone A - right now husband, dog & I are heading east to family in Port Saint Lucie. Zero traffic.
