You may think it was stopped early but Connor had stopped throwing punches and was barely able to keep from taking another big shot that could do real damage sooner or later.

The ref in light of that made the right call. He had nothing left and couldn’t throw a punch let alone defend himself.

It was the right call to stop it.

Surprised it went that far. Connor did a solid job. Entertaining fight.

Fight before though was sad. A back of the head shot and a cheap shot when the man was down. Davis lost his belt before the fight for not making weight. Won the fight but was the biggest loser of the night.

Knew what you were doing with your post.

Watched every second of that fight on The Friday Night Fights. At 16 years old it taught me that being hit in the head was no joke. I had already been knocked out in a street fight. As an old man, anyone who tries to hit me will have made a permanent error.

That wasn't a bad stoppage. McGregor was so tired by that point there was no way he was going to recover and finish the fight. McGregor’s performance was impressive for someone without any professional boxing matches, but Mayweather broke him down and beat him decisively in the end.

I agree. It could have ended very badly for Conor McGregor tonight. That said, another travesty for the sport of boxing. One of their greatest champions took on an amateur to get his 50th win the cheap way, and in a fixed fight. From the first round you could tell McGregor was in over his head in the ring and Mayweather was just toying with him the whole night.

“That was a BS TKO”

No, it wasn't. He could have been hurt badly if they had let it go.

That said, this fight was a bit BS. McGregor, although I give him tremendous credit for how well he did, is clearly not a boxer. He was arm punching most of the fight, which doesn't allow him to get full power behind punches. He probably spent a significant amount of training time developing a straighter punching style than he's used in MMA. That was necessary, but unless you also learn to get your body behind a straight punch it just won't be as effective. He did learn a lot in terms of counterpunching in a boxing match, but he was essentially out on his feet at the end. That's not taking anything away from him. He earned more respect, in my opinion, than he would have in winning another MMA match. He left his own sport and competed in another. He deserves a lot of credit for that.

Mayweather is 40, and after the layoff he looked extremely rusty. If he was fighting a young boxer tonight he could easily have been in big trouble. Nonetheless, although outweighed by probably 15-20 pounds, and fighting a much younger fighter with greater reach, he was never in trouble and essentially fought as a flat footed aggressor against the bigger man. A younger fighter of the same weight as Mcgregor would very likely have ended this much earlier. That's not because boxing is better, or boxer's are tougher etc. It's because it was a boxing match, and McGregor is not, at this point, a boxer. No disrespect meant at all. As I said, I have great respect for what he did in the ring tonight.

The losers? Me, and everyone else who gave into the hype and despite knowing this was a crazy match up still forked over $100 for pay for view. I lost sleep, and money. I am clearly an idiot.

It was a pretty good fight. McGregor managed to do his little rabbity punches to keep Mayweather at distance for the first three rounds and then things evened up, and then as the Irishman hit the twenty five minute MMA limit, he got lit up.

They're both colossal douchebags, but the fight was entertaining. I ate pie and had some bourbon so that was pretty good, too.

Mayweather is 10 years older and smaller than McGregor...a 30 y/o boxer of equal size would probably have won alot earlier.

10 rounds to a ref call? It’s surprising Mayweather didn’t wrap it up before round 3.

watch it before they pull it:

You had lots of company.

I may also be an idiot, but I have not watched a single boxing match my entire life.
I classify it right up there with cock-fighting and dog fighting...

Many would consider NASCAR the same way for the comfort...

There are good medications these days to treat Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.
A 40 year old fought a 29 year old and the 29 year old ran out of gas.

Disagree with you gents who say this was a waste of time and money.

I am not a boxing fan, and this was the first PPV boxing match I ordered. Watched it with family expecting it to be what it was - a circus-like spectacle.

Of course it ended exactly as I expected it to end, but it lasted much longer than expected and Conor gave a good account of himself, though his limitations - particulerly his inability to generate the kind of power he’s used to in the MMA with his big punches due to the different technique required in boxing became apparent pretty early on.

Mayweather’s version of the “Rope-a-dope” worked perfectly, although he was clearly slower than a few years ago and would not have fared well against a younger boxer.

But he knew he didn’t need to do his usual defensive antics.

He essentially abandoned his career-honed technique, and instead lay low for a few rounds and then went straight ahead against an inexperienced opponent who had run out of gas.

But it WAS entertaining. Especially the pre-fight. Footage of their promotion tour was really funny. They put on a good show, satisfied the crowd, and made a boatload of money.

Both of their reputations were enhanced in the end, if only moderately so.

The American Way, no?

Sorry, Occams Razor.

Floyd walks away with 150 mil plus (with the take share of course)
Colin walks away with 50 mil plus (plus whatever “incentive” there was)
Floyd get to equal, but not not beat Marciano leaving that legacy in place
Neither face was pummeled
Colin kept his rep being a “tough SOB” just under conditioned
Colin gets to come back to big paydays as a boxer
Large bets (1M +) placed on Floyd (Who in their right mind bets 1m to win 200k on the if come)
Lots of small bets were placed on Colin

Sorry my friend. It was rigged. It was unsanctioned and Colin doesn’t have his card so the boxing commission can’t even look into it.

So I will repeat:
Rigged
Rigged
Rigged
Rigged
Rigged
Rigged
Rigged
Rigged
Rigged
Rigged
Rigged
Rigged
Rigged
Rigged
Rigged
Rigged
Rigged
Rigged
Rigged
