The Real Reason the Democrats Want to Be Rid of Confederate Monuments

George Orwell’s dictum, "Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past," is often quoted, and for good reason. But it is usually quoted out of context. The passage begins:

"And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed -- if all records told the same tale -- then the lie passed into history and became truth. "

Then comes the aphorism, and Orwell continues:

"And yet the past, though of its nature alterable, never had been altered. Whatever was true now was true from everlasting to everlasting. All that was needed was an unending series of victories over your own memory."

"Reality control" they called it; in Newspeak, “doublethink." Taken in its entirety, Orwell’s 1984, published in 1949, presciently described the scenario we now see unfolding in the Democratic Party, the party of the American Left. They intend to erase their own racist past by removing statues and maligning anyone, especially President Trump, who voices an objection. As Dennis Prager has often asserted, "Truth is not a leftist value." It most certainly is not a value of the mainstream media, print or electronic. Our media are part and parcel of the leftist apparatus that seeks to control how our history is remembered. They mean to rewrite it, start to finish, and impose their revisionist version on the rest of us.

Well, I think the real reason is that the War of Northern Aggression is still being waged in the land of ideas.

Not original ideas. "War of Northern Aggression"? Really?

The dims are trying to eradicate history much in the same way the Soviets did. The past doesn’t fit their narrative.
So, change history to fit their plans.

“Q. How is the Left going to avoid a Second Civil War?

A. By wiping out all traces of the first one”

Institutional memory will take care of that detail.

That’s an easy one: To hide the legacy of Democratic racism.

“Because they were all erected by Democrats for Democrats....................and depict Democrats.............”

Today’s democrats are not your grandparent’s democrats. This fact is unfortunately lost on contempory democrat voters.

Yes. I’m from Georgia. Get over it.

It doesn't look like I'm the one who needs to get over it.

Correct you are. Lincoln’s overriding motivation was to “preserve the union” which was a euphemism for maintaining ever more powerful dictatorial control in the central/federal government in Washington DC. Abolition of slavery was eventually used as a war tactic. There was, is, never will be a justification for the loss of 700,000 lives for the political abstraction of preserving the union.

The real reason is that they have warehouses full of Obama statues waiting to be put in their place.

There’s historic liability for the dems, since their Party was originally founded to safeguard slavery.

Their current narrative is that they switched sides: they don’t want that.

what they want is to say conservatives conceived of, initiated, maintained and safeguarded slavery, which was abolished by the dens.

they’re uncomfortable with their own history.

that’s why the current military arm of the den party -antifa- is attacking and removing commemorations to the old militant wing of the Dem party, Dixie generals.

they’re embarrassed about that.

they prefer to say Repubs did it and they, the Dems, had always taken the lead in combating that.

My guess is that new cultural things like the movies of Dinesh D’Souza really scared the tar out of them and they’re trying to head that off the pass.

Well, they can’t change their own history without removing all the statues, monuments, plaques, buildings and street names in West Virginia dedicated to Robert Byrd.

It’s just another example of the Nazi style “Gleichschaltung” being practiced by the Left world wide.

I have a strategy for Trump to consider and on which I believe he is within his Constitutional right to act unilaterally.

Take back the narrative on all this "monuments to racists" nonsense by issuing an E.O. extending Federal protection to all memorials to all US veterans.

Public Law 810 (1958) makes provision for treating Confederate soldiers as US veterans in the context of grave memorials and other veterans' benefits.

Make all damage and defacements made to statues and memorials to military honorees punishable under Federal Law such as applies to damage to any Federal property - maybe an E.O. in this instance can apply greater penalties to military memorials + criminal trespass charges.

Additionally:

1. Make provision that municipalities will have to go through lengthy Federal review for movement, removal, and/or re-placement of any military monument, including environmental impact statements, historicity review, etc.

2. Require that residents within a jurisdiction will have to vote on approval of a physical relocation or removal of a Federally protected military monument before the proposal can be sent to the Feds for consideration.

3. Mandate that all monuments must be Federally protected and openly view-able to the public in their present place until approval to move or remove them has been granted by the Dept. of the Interior, the Department of Defense, and the Veteran's Administration.

4. Mandate that all military memorials and statues be returned to their places of display as they were as of August 12, 2017.

5. Maintenance of memorials will be required as they had ever been before: the expense will continue to be borne by the municipality, and continuing Federal aid to the municipality will be contingent upon compliance with adequate maintenance and upkeep of the memorial and/or statue.

Trump should make a public Oval Office address to the Nation declaring the rationale for the E.O., describing the history of Nazi's v. Communists in post-war Germany, linking the same thing to the "White supremacists" and "Antifa" today. Calling out the feckless politicians and the media who have rolled over to the mobs.

He should then instruct Congress to pass legislation which codifies his E.O. Additionally, he should encourage Congress to begin investigations into the funding sources of the professional agitators of neo-Nazis and Antifa-Communists and impose fines and financial crawl backs from organizations tied to seditious activity.

Result: the rabble will be identified, will likely be dispersed, made prosecute-able, and American Heritage will be protected.

Where do you suppose the best place would be to give an idea like this some traction?

The dems are trying to foment violence on a large scale.

They know that attacking General Lee etc. amounts to fighting words down South. But they don’t understand conservative Christians. We have self control. But we stand at the ready to defend the Constitution.

I'm reading through the replies and I come to this line and I go "huh?"

Andrew Jackson was the founder of the Modern Democrat party, and I don't think he did it to safeguard slavery. Slavery was already pretty safe in 1828. I think his big issue was the Bank of the United States, which he saw as a Hamiltonian con machine, and of course he worked to destroy it.

.

.

“The bank, Mr. Van Buren, is trying to kill me. But I will kill it.

"Ever since I read the history of the South Sea Bubble, I have been afraid of banks."

“It is to be regretted that the rich and powerful too often bend the acts of government to their own selfish purposes.”

Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past

Words taken out context are the very nature of quotes.

This quote stands on its own ... context adds nothing.
Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.

These quotes, all taken out of context, stand on their own.

“Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing.” - Orwell, 1984

"The falsification of history has done more to impede human development than any one thing known to mankind" Rousseau

History is the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon. Napoleon Bonaparte (1769 – 1821

"If you cut the people off from their history, then they can be easily persuaded."-- Karl Marx
