Washington (CNN)The White House has prepared the paperwork for President Trump to pardon former sheriff Joe Arpaio when he makes the final decision to do so, CNN has learned. An administration official said the White House has also prepared talking points to send to surrogates after he is pardoned. One of the talking points is that Arpaio served his country for 50 years in the military, the Drug Enforcement Administration and as Arizona's Maricopa County sheriff, and that it is not appropriate to send him to prison for "enforcing the law" and "working to keep people safe."

Better to see the conviction overturned on appeal. It would take some heat off the prez and prove that the judicial system works, at least part of the time.

Still, I’m glad Trump raised the issue in yesterday’s speech.

Good. This sheriff was unlawfully prosecuted in the first place.

Why does he have to justify this pardon in so much detail? Did Obama ever have to explain his pardons of drug dealers and traitors to anyone?

Arguable Joe Arpio broke no laws. He was enforcing legally instituted local, state and national law enforcement policy. He simply ran across an agenda driven court that decided to arbitrarily reinterpret existing laws.

When Arpio wouldn't back down, the judge went on a vendetta including denying a constitutionally guaranteed trial by jury.

The damn judge should be held accountable for judicial misconduct.

And he was given a horse-crap of a trial by a political hack of a judge. I new Trump would pardon him, not because of his political support but because he was treated unfairly. Trump accepts defeat, but will never tolerate unfair treatment.

While they’re the at it they might want to take a look at the judge who presided over the trial and convicted a sheriff for upholding the law.

Maybe to point out the sordid details of the “Justice”-Dept-under-nobama’s inappropriate persecution of him for those who are uninformed?

I still believe that a judge(judicial branch) cannot tell a
Sheriff(executive branch) what his job is unless it’s shown to be in violation of the laws set by the (legislative branch). It’s in our constitution as separation of powers
where all branches of government are separate but equal.

“Why does he have to justify this pardon in so much detail?”

Letting the world know the kind of man, what kind of American Obama was persecuting. It’s a strong rebuke of Obama, not just a boring pardon.

Just saw, his attorney said they are appealing AND they’re going for a jury trial.
