Stupid question, perhaps, but given that Rauner is surrendering the state to the criminal element, is there any remote possibility of a primary challenger ? This is the singlemost career suicidal action since Gov. Dick Ogilvie foisted the income tax on the state in the early ‘70s.

>> His answer for everything is that everything is broken so he can’t do anything about it until someone else fixes it. If he is the best the Republicans can do in that corrupt state, they deserve everything they don’t have. <<

Pretty much. It amazes me how many conservatives have swooned over Rauner over the past three years because he constantly flaps his lips about how the state is "broke" and gives lip service about fiscal responsiblity.

A standard Rauner press conference sounds like this:

"Because of Springfield politicians, our state is now BROKE and we can't afford to fund kids with autism anymore! Someone needs to hold those corrupt Springfield insiders accountable for this! HOW AWFUL that career politicians have put us in this mess! It's time for TERM LIMITS! Now pay no attention while I hire another crony for this newly created Office for Accountability and Integrity in Springfield I invented last week, and pay him a nice taxpayer funded $264,456 salary per year. I need to hire TALENTED people, after all!"

In the eyes of numerous conservatives, that makes Rauner Mr. Fiscal Conservative who "stands up to Mike Madigan"

So far we have one announced candidate: William J. Kelly. He's remembered for getting a record high number of votes against Bobby Rush in '94 due to running in the Republican Revolution year (though I think he still didn't muster 30% district-wide). He threw his hat into the ring for Comptroller a few years back, and placed 3rd in a field of three candidates. He also had a big rollout for a campaign for Mayor in 2015, and would have been the first real GOP candidate for mayor in years if he had stuck around until the first round of voting, but he withdrew shortly afterwards.

Most people seem to think his campaign against Rauner is some kind of publicity stunt and he doesn't intend to run a serious campaign. We shall see.

Probably most of the big-name GOP conservatives in this state are afraid the combine would destroy them if they got on the ballot against Rauner.

Actually, I just let him know I am NOT VOTING FOR HIM...AND WHY!

He will be a mediocre (and I am being kind)one-termer!!!

Here are 2 websites/links to send a message~one is the governor.gov website, the other, his campaign.

Governor has subject line categories...I did “Sanctuary State” and “Benefits and Support for Immigrants”... They allow you to indicate support or oppose.

Campaign slogan “BRING BACK ILLINOIS” Sheesh...we need to BRING IT BACK FROM WHERE HE IS TAKING IT!!!

When William Kelly ran for comptroller, in 2010, he was second, in the primary, out of three candidates, although the third-place candidate had more political experience.

I bought a couple cords of firewood from his ranch manager—it’s 20 or 30 thousand acres Rauner owns in the area.

I had no idea where the wood had come from, but the guy said tightwad Rauner allowed him to cut wood and sell it in his spare time to augment his paycheck.

Could have been my $150 that put him over the $3 billion mark!

‘Traitor’ Governor Rauner says he will sign Illinois’ sanctuary state bill

Posted on
August 23, 2017

Governor Bruce “Traitor” Rauner says he will sign SB31, The Trust Act, making Illinois a sanctuary state on Monday. The signing of the legislation represents a fundamental betrayal of Rauner’s conservative Republican base. The backlash against Governor Rauner and his faux conservative allies, including Illinois Policy Institute, is about to begin.
Immigrant coalitions bragged about deceiving voters

The open borders group, Illinois Coalition for Refugee Rights has bragged online that the bill was deceptively titled the “Trust Act” in order to prevent public outrage on the bill. Rauner and his flock of Republican pets complied. Until very recently, few voters in Illinois even knew there was a sanctuary state bill that had passed both the state house and senate in late May – two months ago.

The Trust Act prevents local law enforcement from transferring an illegal immigrant to ICE custody or access to an illegal immigrant in any way. It also prevents ICE agents from using law enforcement equipment or facilities, including electronic databases for investigative purposes. The Trust Act also prevents government officials from making arrests, absent probable cause of criminal activity, in State-funded facilities, including universities, hospitals, healthcare clinics, and emergency rooms.
Chicago releasing criminal illegals into the community

In his recent speech, Attorney General Jeff Sessions used Chicago’s criminal culture as an example of what happens in sanctuary cities. “Chicago is setting “one sad example” of how “respect for the rule of law has broken down,” Sessions said. City leaders force police to “release the criminal alien back into the community without regard to the seriousness of the crime or how long the rap sheet.” Thanks to Bruce Rauner, the entire state of Illinois will become a sanctuary for criminal illegal aliens.
Rauner is siding with the open borders radical Left

By making Illinois a sanctuary state, Governor Rauner has chosen the side of the radical progressive open-borders Left. He has abandoned pro-Trump Republicans, who abhor illegal immigration policies.

Last week, Rauner denounced President Trump’s statement about Charlottesville, a statement that the Left has deliberately twisted for political gain. Rauner has refused to say the President’s name since the November election and skipped the 2016 GOP convention and Inauguration.
Rauner lost the Trump vote

This isn’t the first time Rauner has betrayed his conservative base. In 2016, Rauner signed a bill forcing pro-life doctors and crisis pregnancy centers to promote abortion, regardless of their religious conviction. Pro-life doctors sued the Governor and in August a federal judge halted enforcement of the notification law.

Wow! So sad...It is just incredible to me what is happening in this country :(

Thank you for posting this...Did you make it into a thread? IF not, you should. IL Republicans as well as conservatives in surrounding states need to know what this traitor is doing to IL...He is every bit as bad as a Democrat...maybe worse!

Here is an article discussing it...Joe Walsh says Rauner is toast if he signs it...I agree!!

Oh the irony, these cowardly rino republicans are so afraid of the media they won't stand against the left for even a second. Too bad for them the base is going to primary them or stay home if they're the nominee . Buh bye rauner you stupid piece of liberal trash.

Hmmm. You're right. Looking back at the numbers, he did narrowly beat Jim Dodge in the GOP primary:

Judy Baar Topinka (incumbent) 430,996 59.19%
Willian J. Kelly 157,774 21.67%
Jim Dodge 139,336 19.14%

I remember that was a rare election where I switched during the campaign, having initially endorsed Kelly and then switched to Dodge when it turned out he had a more impressive resume and knowledge for the job.

In any case, people can't accuse me of being a Kelly lackey, though I'm sure some of the people who loathe him will claim it anyway if I support his candidacy.

I've actually refrained from making an endorsement for Governor. We have yet to see if Kelly is running a serious campaign or whether any other Rauner primary challenger will emerge.

Topinka wasn’t the incumbent, during that primary. She didn’t have any elected office, at that time.

ILLINOIS RINO GOVERNOR TO SIGN SANCTUARY STATE INTO LAW.

Saturday, August 26, 2017

Cabello: SB 31 should not be signed

{8AFD3AA5-D48C-4A27-B8A4-B595F925C6D1}
SPRINGFIELD - Should non-citizens be protected from U.S. Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers? That’s what SB 31 will do, State Rep. John Cabello (R-Machesney Park) told Illinois Review Friday. Cabello signed onto a letter six state lawmakers sent to the governor Friday.

A Rockford police detective before being appointed to the Illinois House in 2012, SB 31’s enactment would tie law enforcement’s hands - something that’s “concerning,” Cabello said in a short interview:
