DeNiro is a one act hack. He can only act one way and plays up his own stereotype - it’s all he’s got.
Contrast that with Gary Oldman who both looks and acts differently in every picture.

De Niro should send his energies working against Mexican racism. The Spanish Mexicans are driving the lower class Mexicans out of the country for their own exclusive society. The Mexicans that are pushed out come into America illegally and many go into the illegal drug enterprise. Is De Niro for illegal narcotics?

He's a good actor, but so what. I have zero doubt that you could take any movie he's done, any Streep has done, or any movies featuring the well-known Hollywood crowd, and redo those movies with any of a number of unknown and struggling actors and actresses and the movies would be as good or better. No doubt.
How many times do we see reviews that say “great cast, poor movie”? It's the writers and script, the director, and the people who have their names fly by at the end of the credits that have a huge influence on the quality of a movie. If all of those elements are in place, an unknown actor or actress can carry the movie as easily as the overpaid established crowd.
