The Canadian system is the based on the UK parliamentary system. Only in the Prime Minister's district does he have to stand for election. The winning party chooses a leader. Canadians do not have a head to head vote as in the USA presidential elections. Trudeau did not appear on the ballot anywhere in Canada except his district in Quebec.

There is a minor crisis with the conservative group being penned up in an underground garage Quebec City. This by violent "anti-racists". Justin Trudeau was marching with Ireland's Prime Minister in the Montreal Gay Pride Parade. This around the time the embattled police who were attacked by the anti racists. Police had ordered them to disperse, which was met with violence.

I think they are crossing in Quebec because it is easy and close. There is a natural invasion route from New York City to Montreal. Check out I-87 as it runs north. The "refugees" just hop on a bus or drive to Plattsburgh and then it is a short walk to Quebec. I-91 North to Stanstead is another route. Anywhere else in the east is too rough or too far.

Any other border crossing between I-87 and the north shore of Lake Superior cannot be breached by foot, you would need a boat.

Put yourself in the place of a Haitian refugee. You probably live in New York. You only know about heading north to Montreal where you can elude the evil Trump AND they speak French.

Trudeau had some support in Quebec but the bulk of his seats come from Ontario, specifically Toronto and Ottawa ridings.

Yes,I've done I-91,I-89 and I-87 to and from Quebec and assuming that most Haitians here are on the East Coast it makes sense for them to use those routes to get up to the border.

As I've mentioned before I'm somewhat familiar with Stanstead/Derby Line...having visited that area several times.If one simply wants to step from US soil to Canadian soil and wishes to be detained by Canadian officials Stanstead/Derby Line is a perfect place to do it.The border there is so porous that I once had a short chat with an RCMP officer speaking across the border with him...me a foot or two within US territory and him about 10 feet within Canadian territory.I could have easily stepped over...and immediately been arrested.
