On August 21, the moon's shadow will block the sun from view in a total solar eclipse.
Wherever you are in the United States, you're going to want to look up, and that's OK. Every astronomer in the country will tell you to enjoy this rare opportunity. No matter what superstitions you've heard, there is no risk to your health due to simply being outside during a total solar eclipse.
But there's one thing you shouldn't do, and that's look at the sun with your naked eye.
Don't do it. Really.
The only time you can look at the sun with your naked eye is A) if you're in the path of totality, where the sun will be completely covered by the moon, and B) during those two minutes or less when the sun is completely covered.

They say that binocoulars or telescopes will magnify the sunlight, harming your eyes. Is this true? Even with you wearing the eye protection code glasses.

I am currently just outside the path of totality. On Monday, I will be in the center of that path at an entertainment complex I built in Missouri some years ago.
At the center of the path of totality band, the eclipse there will last 2.5 minutes. Some people don’t realize that by being in the path of totality but by being on the edge of it, the duration is cut by 80%. Nearby in the edge of the path, it will be 30 seconds or less. So look at your maps and shoot for the center of the path.

The evening sun is shining in blinding me!!!! Whatever shall I do? Close the curtains just like every day at this time. Can't care less about the Eclipse! so will stay inside and try to ignore it.
True. Eye protection is going to only deal with the unamplified or un-magnified version. If you magnify it you will burn up eyes or cameras.
The key to safe enjoyment is to get to the center of the path of totality if you can. During the total lunar block, the sun is behind the moon and all that is seen is the corona for that short period.
Outside of totality is danger, even from just 5% of the sun viewable.
Geez, I took a series of pictures of the last big one with a 35 mm Pentax. No filter. It works just fine.

There have been several total eclipses since then. I was in one of them. What you are referring to is a coast to coast eclipse path.
This eclipse duration will be short compared the total solar eclipse on August 12, 2045. That one will last 6 minutes 6 seconds at its maximum duration which will take place right here in Ft. Lauderdale. If I am still around, I plan to watch it with my naked eyes. It will last 3 and a half minutes longer than the one on Monday.

I admit I’m ignorant on the subject, but just passing on info from my husband with PhD in Optics (lenses, mirrors, etc., for defense contractor). Also, I read a bunch online because my sister was asking.
I think it’ll be interesting — maybe fun — to get feedback on the experiences of all of us once the eclipse is over.
I’ll be inside with the curtains shut, watching it on the computer.
Eclipse was the most hyped event of my childhood. Was retarded what a big deal is made of it. I remember feeling a bit duped afterwards. Then came y2k...
I heard that lens shade for welding depends on eye color, with the darker lenses required for blue eyes.
I have brown eyes and use a fairly light lens.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the latest weather reports for the eclipse path from as far west as at least Nebraska to Charleson, SC predicts it will be mostly cloudy on Monday.
I remember one in probably the mid-’60s when we were camping in the Adirondack Mountains. My schoolteacher aunt made one of those pinhole thingies so all of us cousins could watch.
