Earlier today, Cloudflare terminated the account of the Daily Stormer. We've stopped proxying their traffic and stopped answering DNS requests for their sites. We've taken measures to ensure that they cannot sign up for Cloudflare's services ever again.
Our terms of service reserve the right for us to terminate users of our network at our sole discretion. The tipping point for us making this decision was that the team behind Daily Stormer made the claim that we were secretly supporters of their ideology.
Our team has been thorough and have had thoughtful discussions for years about what the right policy was on censoring. Like a lot of people, we’ve felt angry at these hateful people for a long time but we have followed the law and remained content neutral as a network. We could not remain neutral after these claims of secret support by Cloudflare.
Now, having made that decision, let me explain why it's so dangerous.

(Basically this CEO admits his decision to ban the site was arbitrary and capricious. He says that so he can maintain the fiction that Cloudflare would not follow a government order to take down a website. But as he knows and admits, that is not necessary, pressure to be politically correct was enough)

Driving these folks underground is a bad idea—next will come bombings and assassinations. We did this surpressing the left and it lead to the formation of the Weathermen. Best to keep these folks out there they can be seen—we need no new invisible empire of racism.
So there are attacks from at least two directions, the government and the corporations. That doesn't even count the deep state or the online antifa.
I made some half-baked proposals in a thread about the DOS attacks about using a cloud service. BUt I had not thought about all the other attacks, like the one above. I retracted my proposal in that thread. I retract it again here.

I had a sudden epiphany today and realized that Progressive Virtue Signaling might be the Mark of the Beast.

The site’s DNS was also blocked. In other words their address was seized (or locked to be more accurate). This meant that even with a server up and running it could not be found. They were effectively unpersoned from the Internet. It could happen any site, including this one, all without the intervention of some big bad government.
A technical note: you could use only an IP address but that leaves the site open to DDOS attacks (the thing Cloudflare protects from)

Daily Stormer did reappear at a .lol address. Whatever you thing of Daily Stormer that is a bit of a LOL.
True, but DNS is an integral part of cloudflare's service. The reason they handle the DNS is to deal with DNS DDoS attacks as well as server attacks. We almost never change our IP. All connections from your browser or a DDoS attacker are to an IP. Whether they look that up first is mostly irrelevant unless they are doing DNS DDoS. Our attackers are attacking the server, so DNS is not relevant.

Daily Stormer today, Free Republic tomorrow. And I'm not exaggerating. There's a very loud cry from the Left, particularly after Charlottesville, for the tech industry, to use their massive power and pull the plug on "hate sites" --with "hate" being broadly defined as support for Donald Trump.
Daily Stormer is a vile place but the manner in which they were locked out from the internet should give us all pause.
Cloudflare is nothing but a censorship wing of G**gle.
