The single biggest point in the driver's favor is that everyone he hit was in the street. It doesn't mean it's OK to run them over, but it surely calls into question what his motivations were and what the culpability of the victims might be.

Was tear gas used at all to disperse? Or to contain/separate? Why were the groups allowed to mix?

That is a very good post. I would love to see a case or investigatioon brohught. But the unfortunate thing is the left breaks laws all the time, and they never are held to account for any of it. And they know it.

The pedestrians strike was at Water and Fourth streets.
Looks like the pedestrians strike was about 2 blocks "east" on Market, and 2 blocks "south" on Fourth; relative to the SE corner of Emancipation (Lee) Park.
This was a fight between the Democratic Party old guard and the new guard over the future of their party.
The big loser in this fight is the memorials to even older Democrats.

I have yet to find out what particular groups obtained those permits.
You won’t see braking skid marks from late model vehicles anymore. Due to anti-lock braking systems. That key component of re-enacting an accident scene has been taken out of the equation.
Anti-lock brakes. Most likely the “skid marks” you saw from him going in reverse are burn marks from him trying to get away from the folks attacking him. I’ve watched some video of the event where he is rolling slowly down the street, his car is then attacked by folks with clubs and bats, he then guns it. I don’t believe he intended to run folks down. I believe from the video and pictures I’ve seen, that he got scared and tried to get away. He should be held accountable for his actions, but I also believe he’ll be sacrificed to left and required pay far more dearly than he should.

So I am confused here. I have only see the alt-right folks having been granted a permit. I have not seen any information indicating that ANTFA or BLM had permits to counter protest.

For that matter, more and more newer models come equipped with traction control (which sort of works opposite to anti-lock brakes). It prevents “burn-out” marks. If he left skid marks from his tires while accelerating in reverse, he either doesn’t have traction control, or he switched it off.
And all he!! will break loose if we gets off with manslaughter.
With four wheel ABS? Not likely, guy.
