WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump told reporters Tuesday that the counter-protesters demonstrating against white nationalism were also to blame for the violence at race-fueled riots in Charlottesville, Virginia over the weekend.
“There are two sides to a story. I thought what took place was a horrible moment for the country, but there are two sides to a story,” the president said at Trump Tower in Manhattan.
He also said the statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee in Charlottesville was "very important" to the people who participated in the march, and asked whether opponents of such monuments were also prepared to take down statues to George Washington and Thomas Jefferson because they, too, owned slaves.
"I wonder is it George Washington next?" he asked.
His remarks double down on his remarks Saturday, threatening to undo any goodwill the president received by denouncing the Ku Klux Klan and neo-Nazis during a statement at the White House on Monday. The president was criticized for what many, including politicians on both sides of the aisle, saw as an initially tepid response in which he said “many sides” were to blame for the violence that killed one woman and injured 19 other people.
Trump defended the 48 hour delay Tuesday, saying he “wanted to know the facts” before condemning the white nationalists. He then equated the white supremacists on the right to the “alt-left.”

The left has one and only one goal in mind and that is to make our Constitution obsolete. There needs to be something done immediately to rectify that and I propose that both the Constitution and Declaration of Independence be mandatory in public school curriculum. From grades 1-6 teach it every year in an age appropriate manner.
Our youth are being robbed of our Nation’s history by those who want to turn us into the Soviet Union. We need to fight back.

Curiously, the ACLU went to bat for them in court to get that permit reinstated so the event could be held. One must wonder, given typical ACLU proclivities, exactly who had the relational cred to bring them into the picture.
More curiously, it is now emerging that the top organizer of “Unite the Right” very well may be a hard left activist with a proven track record and a well-equipped Rolodex.
We’ll see, but I think there’s one more stinky sneaker yet to be dropped.

Moore was out of the fight directly because he was Chief Justice (not yet removed) but his friends in Alabama were friendly to Donald Trump.
The ACLU has moments of clarity every 10 years or so.
So what? Inasmuch as a portion of them were White Supremacists and KKK members, those people were "political garbage", just as much as the violent antifa fascist thugs are.
Political garbage is political garbage whether it has a permit or not.
We don't need any hate in this country—from the left or right.
The vast majority of the American people have no interest in or relation too any hate groups.
The previous poster was correct in noting that the number of KKK/neo Nazis/White supremacists in this country is a few hundred at most.
But there are thousands of violent antifa fascist thugs.
Somebody should start an "fight club" type "entertainment" venture that lets real haters "meet" with each other and "work out their differences"...

From what other freepers with more inside knowledge have posted over the years the DC calculus goes like this, 1 person in the streets is worth 100 letters which are worth 10,000 emails. So, yes, they do pay attention to the streets. In fact, I would submit that is why the GOP is so spineless. Their base never takes it to the streets. Which is also why the BSM so vigorously suppresses them from doing so by calling them racists Nazi White Supremacists.
In case you had not noticed, when nobody shows up for Antifa to beat on the just destroy property, burn cars, smash stores. So, no, ignoring them does not work.

And if you had not noticed, when there are no racist Nazis for them to beat up the BSM response to their vandalism is “We have to try to understand why these fellow citizens are so angry.” Not, “these violent thugs need to be stopped”.
People who show up with weapons to face a group they hate are planning to start violence.
BLM violence / arson / theft / vandalism / etc. is excused as being allegedly just a few protestors in a group that is characterized as largely peaceful.
..but only one side got the blame.
