Talking to a German reveals Leftism’s cognitive dissonance

I spoke this morning with a friend who lives in Germany. Unsolicited, the friend (who assumed, as Leftists always do, given my socio-economic status, that I am a Leftist too) began to trash Trump. I got the usual litany: Trump will kill Americans because he refuses to save Obamacare; Trump will kill Americans and Koreans because he's threatening repercussions if Kim Jong-Un engages in an overtly aggressive act against the US or its territories; and Trump will kill the entire world because he withdrew from the (meaningless, but expensive) Paris Accords. How in the world could Americans elect the racist, bigoted, dangerous Trump?

Because the friend is older and there was no benefit to be had in offending him, I let the tirade wash over me. At the end, I offered the anodyne statement that we live in strange times. Then it was my turn. I politely asked only one question: How were things in his German town since the refugees came in?

Well, said the friend, they're not so good. They are very expensive because they don't work. And they bring in all their family. And they can't be trained to work because they don't speak German and they're illiterate in their own language. It's a real financial burden having them.

Also, his city really isn't safe anymore. His apartment building has been broken into seven times already in the last year and a half. It's also not safe to go out on the streets anymore. Frau Merkel really made a big mistake when she let in the refugees.

Again, because the friend is older and there was no benefit to be had in offending him, I held my tongue. Had I spoken, though, I would have said, "That's why the American people elected Trump. They looked at Europe's descent into suicidal madness and said NO."

What struck me is the German friend's inability to make the connection between the disastrous condition of Europe, which possesses an economically staggering welfare state overrun by immigrants who drain the system and decrease internal security, and the American decision to elect a president who explicitly said, "I will protect you from the perils of unlimited immigration, legal or illegal, by people who don't share your values, contribute little to nothing to your country, take in more in welfare than they contribute in skill or labor, and who are a threat to your physical well-being and overall safety."

Europe, especially Germany, seeks to expunge its existential guilt over WWII -- and almost all of the European countries need to hide their heads in shame for the fact that, even if they stood against the Germans, they were complicit in ridding themselves of Jews -- by inviting in refugees who not only intend to destroy Europe and Europeans, but who have a vitriolic hatred for the Jews that meets and even exceeds that which led Europe over the precipice into genocidal madness 75 years ago.

What's happening in Europe is a defective mental state, something consistent with the whole notion of cognitive dissonance. After all, holding simultaneously two conflicting thoughts and proclaiming both to be true -- the very essence of cognitive dissonance -- is enough to drive anyone, and any nation, stark, raving mad.

One thing that you can say about Leftists is that they have an abnormally high tolerance for cognitive dissonance. After all, they can say with a straight face that sexual orientation is fixed; gender identity is fluid; and men and women are identical, except for when they're different, something that happens only when women can be deemed superior to men. Holding those thoughts in my mind and actually believing them would rot my brain.

Germans are mentally paralyzed by reminding them of thier past Nazi & authoritarian practices. (Aside: Though if you go back and study Imperial Germany you will discover that the government was NOT as oppressive as is “popularly” thought. For example voter suffrage was more widespread then the UK. For the time they had social services that were very well developed, a universal pension system was present and efficiently run, etc. The biggest problem was no one liked Kaiser Wilhelm II on a personal basis!)

You mentally paralyze an American (particularly a politician!) by finding a way to call him/her a racist.

And the MSM in both countries amplify this!

There are generally only two areas of Germany where you have the combo of ‘welcome refugees’ and anti-capitalism....Hamburg and Berlin. There are numerous metropolitan areas with just the theme of ‘welcome refugees’ but marginalized showing of anti-capitalism.

The theme for the ‘welcome’ deal worked until the evening of 31 December 2015...in Koln. After the thousand-odd police reports of groping and sexual assault...the news media was pushed back and the government was forced into a massive repair job.

The spring 2016 solution was for the Germans to get the EU money guys and Turkey into one room and work up a deal where the Turks would stop the smuggling rings and hold back refugees. The deal that the Turks wanted was entry into the EU, a EU-visa ease of entry for them, and stacks of money (the eventual amount was 3-billion Euro a year). Because the Germans don’t see the money going from Germany to Turkey...people don’t get excited. The German contribution was roughly 950-million Euro...the rest of the EU paid the remaining amount. The EU entry won’t occur (ever), and the visa thing is still on the table. I would guess that all of the three billion Euro goes to supporting the Syrians in camps, but various middle-guys are taking 150-percent profit off services/goods.

All of this effort brought the yearly entry of immigrants and migrants back down to 250,000 to 300,000 a year (their average for the past decade before the crisis).

If you add up the total on 2013 to 2016...it’s near 2.25 million...but their numbers always indicate that around half-a-million have left or been ordered out. Probably another 300,000 in some line to be eventually sent out.

The game which none of the pro-asylum Germans understood...there’s still immigration paperwork to fill out, and a process. The Syrians and Iraqis have a 95-percent chance of being approved. Everyone else runs from five to fifteen-percent of approval. No skills, no real education? No approval unless you are from some war-zone. All the pro-asylum Germans did was create a giant holding deal with a large sum of the migrants thinking they were going to automatically get ‘status’...which is NOT the case.

In the last two or three months, Germans have begun to realize that all these empty refugee camps that they opened are rented spaces, and you can figure at least 25-million Euro a month is thrown away with contracts written in 2014-to-2016...that they can’t easily get out of. On the business of handling migrants and thinking ahead....these weren’t the BMW engineers or the Von Braun rocket scientists....these were poor managers with no real guidance.

Mark Steyn has pointed out for years that, even without the current influx, the Western European birth rate is so low compared to the Muslim invaders that Europe as we’ve known it will be unrecognizable in 30 or 40 years. That’s pretty heady stuff– the takeover of the continent by the Muslims and barely a shot fired...

If we are racist for supporting President Trump, then Liberals are child abusers for supporting abortion.

As for offending people, you reach a certain age when you say what you want and you don’t care who gets mad. I’ve reached that age.

And uncontrolled immigration of Islam grows government exponentially, erodes individual liberty, gives the police state a foothold, and lowers wages for a middle class while raising the tax burden to pay for the suicidal mess.

This is the Obama-Soros fundamental transformation of society they aim for.

100%, Servo1969.

I have said this for years, that liberalism is a mental disorder, and they are dangerously unstable because they live in a constant state of cognitive dissonance.

In Orwell’s “1984”, they have to constantly engage (as second nature) in “Doublethink” (the ability to hold two completely contradictory thoughts simultaneously while believing both of them to be true)

This is not the act of pretending to believe both things have to be true...critically, this is the goal of BELIEVING both things to be true, even though they cannot be.

This is the normal state of affairs in modern liberalism, and it is sick and unhealthy, and explains why most acts of violence of all kinds (particularly mass murder) are committed by liberals.

I, too, do not bite my tongue nearly to the extent I did as a young man. I also am not nearly as vitriolic as I was then. To me, today, truth needs to be spoken especially if the hearer is not willing to hear it.

This too is an interesting topic....on the birth-rate business in Germany. About three years ago, I saw where a German university went out and looked at first, second, and third generation immigrants to Germany (lots of data from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s). The impression was that trend that you talk about would be obvious. Well...no.

What they found was that while the first generation might have gone to the old-country activity of three, four, five kids....the second and third generation kids grew up and adapted to the German system....either zero, one or two kids.

Reason? This triggered a fair amount of discussion and what they think is that the German system of taxation, high cost of living, open knowledge on birth-control, and high cost of rent....make large families in Germany practically impossible.

They eventually acknowledged that you can open the door and have immigrants come in, and you’d have to do this often because the migrants always adapt back to the 1.5 kids per couple.

If you go and look for an apartment big enough to handle a couple and four kids....you’d be shocked at the cost, and how few of these exist in Germany.

I sat there six months ago and did a graphical chart, with the 1.5 kid situation and negative numbers. What I eventually came to size up....unless immigration were to change this situation....is that you go from the 82-million Germans of today....in about 1,200 years....down to the last 10,000 Germans. This trend has been in place for almost fifty years now, and I don’t see much of anything changing that.

——Germany, seeks to expunge its existential guilt over WWII——

I would argue differently.

Sweden is or has killed herself by the suicide of Islam. Sweden has no guilt.

The fact that untold millions were killed by the wars, not counting the Jewish genocide, produced an antiwar mindset. The antiwar mindset will not allow any action that could induce war. The result is suicide by Islam

I may be thinking wrong, oranges, apples, but the situation in Europe today seems to be a repeat of the Goths and Rome. An invasion and capture and massive Roman death was not necessary.

The Romans just pissed it away

Doublethink: knowing the truth but selectively rejecting it in favor of ‘politically correct’ madness. Those who select madness are afraid of rejection, of being called names, of being cast outside of the herd. Being brought into a condition of double think is to the lunatic Left the fruit of the consensus process.

Yeah, and if they are not politically correct they will be fired from their jobs and rejected by their friends. In other words,: Their Government is their God and they will be turned into a piller of salt if they disobey.:socialism is death
