Egads! I went to UVM, and a cornerstone was laid by the Marquis de Lafayette, and yep, he owned slaves.
(I watched the period 18th century France tv series "Nicolas Le Floch", and they did have slaves in France.)
Any way, there's a Cincinattus-styled statue of Lafayette on the UVM green.
I'm willing to let bygones by bygones, but I'm abhorred by useful idiots going around wrecking things out of context.
Slavery was a part of history, I don’t get what they are attempting to do by erasing the past. Seems remembering it and making sure it doesn’t happen again is the way to go. It’s just amusing to me to see the Wahoos, who have long idolized MR JEFFERSON, now confronted with the dilemma of how to deal with him now that he’s in disfavor.
