Aaannnddd more leaks. They are flowing under Kelly. A test of Kelly’s leadership will be whether or not he can get these leaks under control. I know we’ve fired the guy who wanted to go after leaks. I’ll give Kelly a few weeks. If the leaks continue, I think we can say either Reince wasn’t the leaker or if he was, was just a fish in a pond of others.

The role is not tightly defined and has varied widely since it came into existence in the WWII era. Jimmy Carter campaigned on not even filling the CoS position and didn’t for over half of his term in office. Priebus didn’t hire him, Kelly couldn’t fire him. Trump and Sessions are close despite all the smoke and mirrors of the past several weeks. If Sessions needed reassurance, it would not come through an assistant who has no authority, it would come from Trump himself. This story is bogus. I’m not saying that Sessions isn’t safe, I’m saying that this story has nothing to do with whether he is, or isn’t.

I agree that the Chief of Staff is defined by the president and I described the structure of successful presidents. However, the fact that Trump allowed Kelly to fire Scaramucci shows that Trump is letting Kelly run the show as most Chiefs of Staff have done. A president needs someone with this authority because the president can't be making dozens of decisions a day that don't matter in the long run. Trump needs to be focused on his big agenda items and only those things that advance those big items. Anything else is a distraction.

Yes, Carter did not have one for a good while and his presidency was a disaster. The most famous story I recall is Carter personally keeping and recording who signed up to play tennis at the WH tennis courts. Hamilton Jordan was not much better than no one, too.

The Mooch was a mistake from the get-go. If he doesn’t have enough self-control to at least say “off the record” before screaming obscenities and berating the then-chief-of-staff, he has no business being in the WH.

My guess is someone on Sessions side at DOJ leaked this. It is in Sessions interests to push back hard to keep his job. He’s kind of got Trump in a bad spot because he has lots of friends in the Senate who not confirm anyone Trump likes to replace Sessions with and he’ll be left with Rosenstein acting indefinitely. If he fires Rosenstein too, that will cause major political problems and the Senate will pass a law to appoint Mueller as Independent Counsel and the blowback will cripple any agenda he wants to pass Congress.

The reason I say you are correct is because Sessions has already engaged in that specific behavior.

When President Trump (correctly) called out Sessions for his hands off malpractice of not investigating or going after the leakers and the Hillary/Obama criminal goons, Sessions lobbied his former colleagues to go to the press to attack the President.

We say Chuck Grassley, who said he would not even hold hearings on a replacement, and several other Senators attack the President for even daring to push back on Jeff "Do-Nothing" Sessions.

It was a disgusting display, in that Sessions' friends in the Senate lamented over the way "poor Jeff" was being treated. They never cared a whit about the way the President and his family were being treated (and abused), but that is the DC Swamp.

For the sake of our country, Sessions needs to resign. It’s the only way to get rid of the Mueller cancer without further damage. I’m surprised Sessions doesn’t recognize that. Trump’s dropped enough hints, beyond that he can’t do much else without making this attempted coup even worse.

Just how many people actually sat in on the General’s ‘private’ conversation?

By trolling with Sessions as the bait, he got Congress both sides to support him, esp now when shyte is going to hit the fan with the AG going after the leaks.

I think Trump has reassured Sessions behind the scenes that he has his back, although you can’t blame the man for being upset.

Hi, Nikos!

I am hoping that tomorrow’s Sessions press conference about leaking will be indictments of various insiders.

And I hope all the anti-Trump numbnuts in Congress that are currently singing the AG’s praises are gobsmacked.

Swamp, meet drain.

It’s the best rope a dope I’ve ever seen. Sessions is going to come out with both guns blazing, I hope it includes the hold overs from the Obama admin., and the democrats like Durbin and Schumer are going to be speechless.

I suspected hat the AG was party to the plot because he reacted with serenity.
