Cantor comes clean, admits he didn’t believe his own ACA rhetoric

For several years, in his capacity as House Majority Leader, Eric Cantor helped lead the charge on repealing “Obamacare.” Put Republicans in charge, the Virginian told voters, and they’d dismantle the Affordable Care Act.

[SNIP]

The former GOP leader in the House talked to the Washingtonian’s Elaina Plott and conceded that his Republican Party is in a tough spot – parts of the conservative base expect the party to repeal the ACA, because that’s what they were promised – in part because of promises he and his colleagues made that they never intended to keep.

Asked if he feels partly responsible for their current predicament, Cantor is unequivocal. “Oh,” he says, “100 percent.”

He goes further: “To give the impression that if Republicans were in control of the House and Senate, that we could do that when Obama was still in office….” His voice trails off and he shakes his head. “I never believed it.”

He says he wasn’t the only one aware of the charade: “We sort of all got what was going on, that there was this disconnect in terms of communication, because no one wanted to take the time out in the general public to even think about ‘Wait a minute – that can’t happen.’ ” But, he adds, “if you’ve got that anger working for you, you’re gonna let it be.”

In context, when Cantor says he and his party felt the need to “let it be,” he means that Republicans fed a bunch of nonsense to their own voters, then exploited their anger for electoral gain with no intention of following through.

Cantor and his colleagues, in other words, played their base for fools – because they thought it’d help them win some elections, which it did.

Ryan, McConnel, all of them are frauds. They are DEMOCRATS in sheeps clothing. All this political posturing is just for show. They have NO INTENTION OF EVER GETTING RID OF OBAMACARE. NOT NOW, NOT EVER!

What a swamp rat. Thankfully the district is now represented by a man of principle Dave Brat.

The thing is, this could cost them their majority if people sit out the next election in disgust.

And that opens up a whole new set of problems.

Agree; Ryan and McConnel are frauds. As are the half dozen Repubs who voted against repeal. McCain, as usual, heads the list. The guy is shameless.

Nice to see Cantor and Boehner be honest about how dishonest they were while in leadership positions.

The Republicans are a very poor excuse for a party.

Obamacare is another outrage for which we can thank the 17th Amendment.

Ryan needs to be pressed on this issue. What else is Republican Leadership lying about?

Most pubbies are more comfortable in the minority. With the exception of committee chairmanships, the pay and perks are identical to the majority.

I sat out the congressional portion of the 2016 election. So far, I see no reason to vote next year.

Well at least we now have the excuse we need to recall these lying scum.

We should recall every Republican that voted against no.

If we can’t recall them, then Primary them.

If we can’t Primary them, then cross over and vote for their top opponent.

The message needs to be sent. That their political career s are over.

It seems the only way the swamp will be drained is if aliens nuke it from orbit. D.C. Is incapable of mending itself

But just in case something happens, they preemptively exempted themselves from any replacement.

Can’t their constituents impeach them? And why NOT? If they openly admit their dishonesty!

Democrats and liberal news media are winning when they make people think the entire GOP is composed of RINOs. They play some people like violins even though they know Dems and media use propaganda.

Yes, fight to reform GOP, kick out RINOs and idiots like Cantor. But throw out the GOP entirely and you will be left with nothing but Democrats.

I have not yet seen a single interview of any of the “Yes, providing Obama vetoes it. And No if there’s the slightest chance that Trump will sign it” mob.... Waiting.

But throw out the GOP entirely and you will be left with nothing but Democrats.

How is that any different than what we have now?

This Republican 'controlled' Congress hasn't done a damn thing to show that they are anything different from Democrats.

All this grandstanding and play-acting by the Democrats at being angry and incensed with the Republicans is just a sham for their own voters, just like the Republicans dance and sing in a show for us. It's all fake.......................

Well ... there you have it.

You cannot trust the GOP in anyway shape or form. They blatantly lied to us and always intended in screwing us over and ALWAYS intended on going with the DNC.

I’m officially done with the GOP this is the pst straw.

It’s time for a new political party that actually stands for the Tepublic and not the corporate political elite who have seized power and turned themselves into a fiat ruling class.
