Logan Ireland, an Air Force staff sergeant who began his transition to a man after two years of service, tells PEOPLE exclusively that hed love to meet with President Trump and discuss the implications of the new sweeping ban on transgender military personnel.
For the President to deny an able-bodied, fully qualified person the inherent right to raise their right hand and serve their country, potentially giving their own life for our freedoms, is doing this country an injustice, Ireland says.
He continues, extending his invitation to Trump for a conversation, I would love for my President to meet me so I can tell him about the 15,500 honorably serving transgender military members that are fighting right now for their liberties and for their country.
Staff Sergeant Ireland, 29, joined the Air Force in 2010 as a woman, according to the Air Force Times. In 2012, he began his transition a process Ireland had postponed to ensure he could enlist, as at the time serving as openly transgender was banned.
Ireland was previously profiled alongside his now-wife, Laila Villanueva, in a 2015 New York Times Op-ed documentary. Villanueva, 31, is also a transgender soldier.
In the documentary, both Villanueva and Ireland expressed that they had been met with acceptance and support by fellow service members, despite the then-policy.

It’s the military’s duty to recruit in a DISCRIMINATING way.
Postponed to ensure that Uncle Sugar would pay for the treatments. On second thought, make that Aunt Sugar.
First of all “he” is a woman...a mentally unstable, disturbed woman. Kick her out. Second, she should seek mental health treatment before she kills her self.
So.... one is a woman who is now a man and the other is a man who is now a woman? And they're married, and getting kicked out of the military, because the military never in 200-odd years put up with such foolishness, then had a brief weak moment, and is now coming back to its senses?
I lead a boring life. And I'm fiercely glad for it.
No media complained when BO did the same thing, just the other side of the coin.
I am currently in A Stan there is something called General Order #1 one of which is the seperation of the sexes in quarters which and long story short I do not know how trans service members would work over here that and some other things.
Actually Transgendered are doing their DNA determined selves an injustice.
Is a staff sergeant publicly criticizing the Commander in Chief tolerated in the military?
Whew, the winning.
The 15,500 are closet cross-dressers. They don’t know their terms.
I could not care less what some mentally ill deviant pervert has to say
“I doubt that there are 15,500 transgendersanother pulled out of the air figure,Ill bet.”
That figure was “estimated” (read: made up) by a think tank organization known as the palm center. Which advocates for homosexuals and transgendered in the military.
Logan, tens of millions of people think the less than 1% of folks like you are perverts and belong in the nut house.
Quit trying to jam your perversions down America’s throat!
The mentally ill have no place in the military.
Hey partner, you can dress properly or get the hell out. Very simple choices.
If he worked for me, I would slap him with and Article 15 for insubordination to the Commander in Chief.
I guess traitor Chelsea is on his/her/its own now. No taxpayer dime for your butchering.
Short hair and a mustache wont make you a man any more than long hair makes your “spouse” a woman. Actually this is a marriage of a man and a woman, they just cant figure out who is who.
The self mutilated mentally ill should not be in the military the government or dealing with children. What would happen if an entire company refused to serve with one? Everyone in the brig one freako on duty?
Favorite t-shirt;)
