If Trump dumps Sessions he will be left with the deputy AG who appointed the Special Prosecutor in charge of the Department. The Senate will be so angry that he got rid of Sessions that the chances of them confirming a new AG anytime soon are slim and none. I would predict any new nominee may not even get a Hearing this year. He needs to have a meeting with Sessions and make peace.

This is no 4-d chess or WWE style show. Sessions is a mistake that needs corecting. Fire him and be done with it.

Good morning.

I posted on another thread that I thought Sessions was short.

I’m not so sure anymore. This whole thing looks like a script right out of the WWE.

As often happens for me, I was getting impatient with Sessions and with Trump’s reluctance to actually fire him. Now I regret, as always, that I even thought like that. These people are running a strategy. The constant and now cliche references to Trump’s 3D chess while the opposition is barely up to checkers always turns out to be the correct perception, but it can be hard to remember that sometimes if one is not, oneself, chess player.

Only two possible plans are being executed here:

We are all being played on the surface while big bone crushing is getting set up behind the scenes. Trump statements are a rouse to deflect energies that may interfere. (My hope and guess)

The A.G. put up a big show and was always the paper tiger and Trump now sees through it. Time to go. (My fear and I doubt it)

-- ... but as a businessman, a manager who has a talented employee with loads of potential who for some reason is not performing up to expectations --

I see the potential for a completely different underlying pattern, having been in that boat. I've been in "we have trouble" meetings between my boss, myself, and our customer. Even though I didn't deserve it, and even though I had nothing to do with the trouble, I'd be accused -- in front of the customer -- of blowing my responsibility. I knew that was BS, but in that venue, what do you do? Call the boss a liar? Ha! Turns out, either by unstated understanding, or past relationship, or hearing later, the boss knew it was BS too. The flip side (it won't work in Trump/Sessions) was my boss had lots of trust that I could resolve the issue. I end up with more responsibility, and become more valuable to the company.

I trot that out not to defend Sessions or Trump, nor to knock either of them, although I have mighty strong opinions there, but rather just to add another possibility to the speculation soup.

Why didn't A.G. Sessions replace Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, a Comey friend who was in charge of Clinton investigation but got....

...big dollars ($700,000) for his wife's political run from Hillary Clinton and her representatives. Drain the Swamp!

That's a good question. Why did McCabe replace Comey as "acting FBI Director"? Order of succession. But why honor that?

Now, technically, blaming -only- Sessions for this is out of rig, because the FBI reports to Rosenstein, not to Sessions.

Tillerson is taking some time off. State Dept says he is not resigning...it is just some time off.

Why not call it a vacation. Everyone is entitled to one..

In any event...REXIT countdown continues for those that cover the State Dept.

Let’s pretend that argument is correct. Sessions says to Trump that Trump can attack him relentlessly in the nastiest way...even claiming that Sessions isn’t loyal and just wanted big crowds.

To what end?

It scares off staffers and potential cabinet picks. It scares any talented person who might want to work at the DOJ...and there are a lot of vacancies there.

You can bet Tillerson doesn’t like it. Potential candidates now see Trump will turn on even the most loyal supporter on a dime.

I just don’t see Sessions agreeing to this onslaught.

Maybe the intervention by Newt Gingrich will make a difference.

I’m starting to lean in the direction of those who have opined that Trump and Sessions are laying a trap for the Dems.

interesting comment:

"I worked with him for 16 years. I never saw him fire anybody. The issue about firing people only came when he went on the TV program ['The Apprentice']," said Louise Sunshine, a longtime executive in Trump’s real estate company. "He would make it extremely clear you had made him angry, and you would go on his list. He would have a long memory and make your life miserable."Maybe it's easier if Jeff Sessions gets the message and resigns," Sunshine said. "

“He wants to fire him but he doesn’t want the confrontation,” said one adviser who frequently speaks to Trump. “He doesn’t mind the long negative storyline. He will torture him every single day.”

Good morning.

“To what end?”

Of course I’m speculating:
Bait and switch.

You have seen democrats begin to come to Sessions aid, and look at what Sessions is doing about sanctuary cities and deep state leaks. Hear much whining and gnashing of teeth from the msm?

Yes of course, and I think by now the fact that Trump can fire anybody need not be repeated in order for people to "know" it. On the other hand, I am not so sure that it is common knowledge that the Director of the FBI reports to the Deputy AG, not the AG.
