Senate votes to open debate on health care reform -- live updates
CBSNews ^ | July 25, 2017 | CBS News

The Senate is expected to vote Tuesday on whether to take up health care reform, which will require 51 votes to open debate.

It's unclear what any final product will look like if that first procedural vote is successful. The first vote is intended to open debate on the American Health Care Act (AHCA), the GOP-sponsored Obamacare replacement plan that passed the House of Representatives in May.

Republicans need 51 votes to proceed to the legislation, which would then be subjected to what is expected to be a lengthy amendment process. Democrats are united in their opposition to the legislation, and if Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, is still from brain surgery and likely unable to vote, that means the GOP senators can only lose one vote otherwise the legislation collapses.

Rand Paul says he'll vote in favor of the "motion to proceed" because of assurances from McConnell Paul tweeted that McConnell informed him Tuesday morning that that the plan is to write on a repeal and delay plan that resembles a Senate-passed bill from 2015. He said if that's the plan, he would vote in favor of the motion to proceed to begin debate.

If Trump could sign an executive order putting all govt employees on Obamacare, this whole thing would be over in five minutes.

LOL — You can never trust titles to be accurate on main stream media. These people are social justice warriors and are incapable of clear writing.

Trump can sue to negate Congress’ fraudulent declaration that they are a “small business” (fewer than 50 employees).

“Fixing Obamacare” means DON’T replace unconstitutional ACA AKA Government healthcare with more unconstitutional government healthcare.

The only valid "healthcare reform" is NO GOVERNMENT healthcare AKA THE FREE MARKET!!!!

The voluntary cooperation directly between patients and doctors in the marketplace free from government interference is the best healthcare system in the world which America had until the feds started unconstitutionally screwing it up in the 60’s.

KICK THE POLITICIANS OUT OF HEALTHCARE. They don’t care about your health, only their political careers.

What about their collective PROMISE to repeal it? Will they once again be proven to be liars?

Just give us the names of which Senators do NOT support a clean “REPEAL ONLY BILL”, so we can PRIMARY their sorry crooked butts out of there !

President Trump does NOT support that.

Should we primary him?

(In fairness, Trump supports every Republican bill so it’s not really fair to pin him down on any one position).

Well, he NOW supports the repeal only version with the repeal being delayed for two years while GOOD health care legislation can be enacted and stood up.

If Trump really wanted to motivate his base and increase his support He'd support a CLEAN "REPEAL ONLY BILL" !
AND he'd appoint Mark Levin to head up a Special Investigation of ALL Russian Collusion, to include Hillary, Bill, and ALL Democrats involved in it in any way.
He'd immediately have the FBI impound ALL the D.N.C.'s computers and their servers and let the charging of the TRUELY GUILTY& begin !

Is that where he ended up? I honestly have no idea.

Today’s TWEET said “Repeal or Repeal & Replace.”

So, he’ll sign whatever.

I still think this ends with single payer.

You are right but President Trump would not do it and even if he did the they would just ignore his order. The communists federal judges would override.

Unless I missed something I assume the title is wrong and it’s about “health INSURANCE reform” not “health CARE reform”.

And about the republican plan to pay for obamacare (and they get to rename it like a sports stadium since they pay).

And what they can do to make it appear like they are replacing obamacare while accepting the democrat’s basic idea of the ACA that it is the federal government’s duty to guarantee everyone health INSURANCE (but not health CARE).
