I would suggest the following policy, at 1600 meters they get one warning shot. At 1100 meters sink the damn thing.

During the presidential campaign last September, Trump vowed that any Iranian vessels that harasses the U.S. Navy in the Gulf would be 'shot out of the water.'

Fine, but NOT in the Strait of Hormuz... Sunken ships in the narrow navigation channel could stop almost all ME shipping... Maybe that's what Iranians are positioning for - could be dry runs for the bigger plan.
