I'd recommend using the military to fight wars, not police city streets. Chicago today - your town tomorrow. Do you really want to see heavily armed forces which are not under any form of local control patrolling your streets, setting up checkpoints in your neighborhood, searching your home without a warrant?

Did you see my other post on this thread where I linked to a chart of the annual murder rates in Chicago for the last 60 years? It showed that the rate has declined by 50% over the last 20 years. The idea of a "horrible murder rate in Chicago" is just a meme that the MSM is pushing to advance the idea that more gun control is needed. I have a hard time understanding why people believe anything the MSM says..

Maybe not, but at least I didn't compound the problem by putting military troops on the streets in American cities - troops controlled by the Federal govt who is not your friend.

And from a look at the data, the problem seems to be solving itself. Did you know the murder rate is down by 50% over the last 20 years in Chicago?

So, the murder rate has been continuously dropping since 1997 and is now less than half the rate it was then and to "solve" that problem you want to put the 101st Airborne on the streets of Chicago - citing their wonderful successes in Iraq and Afghanistan as their ability to do the job. And you consider that to be a "thoughtful" solution. LOL Yep. Nothing like turning the US military into an occupying force in our own country just to solve a problem that is only a problem in your and the MSM's eyes.

Ok, here's my solution to the problem: let the ferals kill themselves and send the police and the EMTs around later to clean up the mess and do the paperwork. When the local community has had enough pain and quits with the "Snitches get stitches" bullshit you can put the police back on the streets to do a little pro-active peacekeeping. Until then, let the damn place burn. Just my opinion from out here in the weeds.

Concerning your question; how many soldiers ~~. It’s a false argument typically used by the Left. You don’t strike me as a Leftie though. Are you a Leftie? But, I will answer your question anyway. As a Vietnam vet I have some personal knowledge about “sacrificing solders lives”. But, i was really exposed to the inequities of war after I returned from Nam. The unit I was in had responsibility for performing burial details of KIA’s in the area. And, after performing funerals for several guys it became apparent which demographic was bearing the load in Nam. Anyway, I do not have a cavalier attitude about putting our military in harms way. I guess I would sum up my thinking along these lines, lives are precious but not priceless.

We should send our military medics to chicago so they can learn how to treat gunshot wounds.

They already are, and have been for at least 10 years now. Military doctors have been serving in then Cook County Hospital, now "John Stroger Hospital" in Chicago and Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL treating gunshot victims (and gang-bangers who've been shot) alongside the E.R. doctors.

Both of the above hospitals receive the majority of gunshot victims in/around Chicago.

I know two orthopedic surgeons at Christ Hospital, one does knees the other does spines. They've been training military doctors for quite some time. They also get quite a bit back from the military doc's in treating head trauma's. The result is a lot of lives get saved now. Both in the hospitals and in the field.

No it's not. The murder rate this year is outpacing last year. Granted, it may be lower than 1957 but it's not trending down, it's trending up.

I linked a chart covering 60 years which showed the murder rate in Chicago is down over 50% in the last 20 years and you attempted to refute that with a link to a website showing an uptick in murders over the last 6 months. That is not actually statistically relevant - but it is on HeyJackass, so you do have that going for you.

They're already branching out in the suburbs. Pretty soon the gangs are going to hit up the Magnificent Mile, Navy Pier, and all the other tourist hot-spots.

Too late! They're already committing crimes on the Mag Mile and Navy Pier. It wasn't that long ago earlier this year that there was a fairly large brawl at Navy Pier. IIRC a few people got shot too.

The number of spots in/around the city that could be considered safe is dwindling .... I work in the South Loop and it's taken a pretty decided turn for the worse in the last few years.

Yes, the casualties are worth it. Many of those being killed are innocent women and children. Concerning the demographic I referred to; it was ,poor and lower middle class kids of all races. Never buried what I perceived to be a rich kid. Nothing against those who are rich as I would like to be rich. Anyway, those who had access to power and privilege were able to avoid the draft. But, that's another subject which I don't have the time nor inclination to go into.
