Finally, a college cracks down on the left’s snowflake fascist

At least one US college is willing to take serious steps to punish left-wing students who shut down conservative speakers.

Claremont McKenna College this week announced disciplinary measures, including lengthy suspensions, against seven students who were part of a mob that blocked an audience from hearing a pro-police speech by Heather Mac Donald last April.

SEE ALSO When 'safe spaces' turn violent When 'safe spaces' turn violent The crowd, spurred on by Black Lives Matter, forced Mac Donald to give her speech via livestream, even as protesters tried to drown her out. It was an outrageous infringement of Mac Donald’s right to free speech — and the right of other students to hear her. It was also another despicable example of what passes for acceptable political protest on far too many campuses.

Claremont McKenna hit three students with full-year suspensions, two with one-semester suspensions and two with conduct probation. It gave deans at other Claremont campuses evidence of violations by their students and urged them to act. Four non-students were suspended from on-campus privileges.

Some say colleges need to expel kids who, in Claremont’s words, breach “institutional values of freedom of expression.” But Claremont’s steps are a far cry from those at Middlebury College, which “punished” students who rioted against conservative scholar Charles Murray and assaulted a professor by issuing a letter of rebuke that didn’t even go on their permanent records.

Fact is, too many colleges refuse to stand up to the increasingly violent campus attacks on free speech. Better for everyone if they followed Claremont McKenna’s lead.

It is about time. I think colleges are getting the message now since many are shutting down because parents are getting fed up with their anti-Constitutional fascism. Let them suffer.

Missouri found that out. Enrollment down 30%. They had to close dorms.

Can’t let the crazies run your college and expect parents to put up with that.

I’ll bet that college hasn’t had any trouble since.

CMC used to be fairly conservative and a lot of the donors/alumni have had enough.

“acceptable political protest”

This is not protest. The act of using physical means to prevent freedom of speech on US soil is terrorism and should be treated as such. Terrorism is defined as the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims. This should be considered the new hate crime and be treated as such. And the recipients of the crime are US citizens, period. No color, political persuasion, gender, religion, or any factor other than a crime against any US citizen. Have the feds investigate and prosecute. Let them do a little time in a federal prison. According to U.S. Code section 249, normally, the punishment for a hate crime is a maximum of 10 years in prison. However, if the hate crime involved kidnapping, sexual assault (attempted or completed), attempted murder, or resulted in death, then the punishment can be any length of time up to life in prison. Is this enough of a deterent?

I live in Claremont. Really glad to hear this. I hope they take it to the next level and prosecute all violent protestors and put them in jail.

My daughter graduated from Mudd. Claremont is a beautiful city. It always blew my mind that we could get off I-10 at Indian Hill Blvd. and within a block or two, it looked like we were in small town American.
