Moscow called claims that Russian President Vladimir Putin had a “secret meeting” with President Trump “absolutely absurd,” but confirmed the two leaders talked informally over dinner during the G20 summit.
“They had a bilateral meeting that had been officially agreed through diplomatic channels, then they repeatedly exchanged views and remarks on the sidelines. There were no undercover or secret meetings and to assert that there were is absolutely absurd,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, according to Reuters.
“The use of a term like ‘undercover’ or ‘secret meeting’ raises eyebrows,” Peskov said.
Trump, in an interview with the New York Times, admitted meeting with the Russian leader during a dinner for the G20 leaders in Germany but he said it only lasted about 15 minutes and they exchanged “pleasantries” and briefly discussed an adoption issue that has raised tensions between the two countries.
It’s the same matter that the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., said he talked about with Natalia Veselnitskaya, a Russian lawyer with ties to the Kremlin, during a June 2016 Trump Tower meeting.
Putin in 2012 banned adoptions of Russian children by Americans in retaliation for US sanctions on Moscow for human rights abuses.

Last night the media was breathlessly decrying the absence of a translator for Trump. “Putin’s translator could have told them whatever he wanted and Trump wouldn’t know.” Bull squeeze. Wasn’t Melania sitting right next to Putin? I’ll bet Trump trusts her more than some government translator that is likely an Obama holdover.

Careful, or one of the Fake News Media that lurks here will get the idea for more fake news about “Secret phone conversations between Trump and Putin!” Now that I gave them a headline they haven’t used yet, it wouldn’t surprise me if it we see it in the next day or two. Then we’ll have Maxine and all the others demanding an investigation into all the phone calls Trump has made. I’d laugh at the absurdity of such a suggestion, but they’ll do ANYTHING to try and ruin Trump at this point.
Heads of State are forbidden from talking with one another unless the cameras are running and the microphones are turned on?
When’s the propaganda press going to come out and admit that Melania was seated next to Putin at the table (incidentally, Merkel, really? really?), and that Trump came over to talk to his wife and, as was probably pre-planned, it necessitated talking to Putin, also, since, obviously, it was unavoidable!
The propaganda press is too busy lamenting that Merkel “the leader of Europe” was largely ignored by Trump - as if she’s the new Pope. Except she’s not.
