Short story. The guy my B-I-L worked for was a Multi Millionaire, probably worth over 30 Million.
He never flew First Class. He always booked an Aisle Bulkhead Seat right behind First Class.
He said First Class was a ridiculous waste of Money.
To explain why you not thinky with full brains: Airline seats are a commodity. Tickets are contracts. A ticket is a futures contract. To allow the seller of the contract an out is fundamentally unfair to the buyer. The Universal Commercial Code 400 (UCC400) fully addresses this. Saving a Force Majoure situation the damned airline better give you the damned seat you contracted for.
Well then we can both follow Coulter’s upcoming lawsuit against Delta Airlines.
I would vastly prefer if she just ended any TV segment with “Don’t fly Delta because they cheat.” It yield a lot more retribution than some silly lawsuit. The cost of a new customer is immense. Cost them customers.

If it’s ok with you some of us pay for additional service or comfort. Do you have a problem with that. In your scenario you should be put with the luggage.
No they haven't made her whole. There is no way to properly compensate her for the discomfort she experienced.
As a taller guy, I have flown coach, and then I have flown in coach seats with a little extra room, and for many of us, the difference is very large. Much greater than the extra $30 for the better seat.
I suspect that someone with a grudge saw her name and decided to take out some frustration on her. I think she is was and is right to call them out on it.

Ann has that option available to her and she can also file suit against Delta.

let me propose an alternative view. Ann boarded first and sat in the proper seat. The second person claiming that seat should have been seated elsewhere.
Delta claims they moved Ann to a seat on the same row and that she changed her seating preference within 24 hours of boarding.
Ann is being vindictive but the father or the son could have hown some old fashioned good manners/chavenism and given the seat to a woman. (lady???)
How so? She was sitting in the seat and they replaced her with a woman with no explanation. Again, WTF?
Of course it’s not the money. It is torture for someone as tall as Ann to sit in a regulation seat with no extra legroom. They are purposely missing the whole point.

Is there a federal law that states that when there is a seating conflict on a domestic flight that the person who boarded the aircraft first retains priority in the seating?
That’s what I thought. Exactly what they do to Trump and everyone associated with him if they possibly can.
She isn’t going to mess with a lawsuit IMHO. She is going to rip them a new ahole. It is going to impact stock price. That is how you hurt them.
