The other passenger had a contract with Delta also
That said, have you actually seen said contract of other passenger? Yes, everyone has a contract with the airline; however, it appears that the other woman did not have a PREBOOKED seat.
According to Ann, the gate staff gave away her PREBOOKED seat...
Details, details...
We know nothing about the other woman’s ticketing process with Delta.
We do know that airlines are have the ability to ask people to switch seats.
We know that both Coulter and the other passengers arrived at their destination.
It would also appear that Coulter changes her seating preference within 24 hours of boarding.
I have read nothing that would suggest that an airline passenger is gaurenteed the seat they request for a flight.
Don’t feed the troll. Timpainass1’s being a punk. Ignore her.
Delta said Coulter had originally booked a window seat and then within 24 hours of the flights departure, she changed it to an aisle seat on the same row.
Well, as I said last nite, a window seat is not the same as an aisle seat—especially for long-legged people. Fact that Ann changed seats 24 hours before flight does not matter...It would not matter if she changed it an hour before flight time...She was allowed to do that with the reservation system.
As I just pointed out to you, with a link, Ann claims the gate staff changed her seat,..so if you are going to say Ann has no right to be upset because she may have changed seats 24 hours before the flight, then the family that changed seats at the gate had even fewer rights to do so.
People change flights a couple hours before flying...happens all the time...So what? On quality airlines (not necessarily delta) the computer won’t let you double book same seat.
My guess? She may not have been able to book an aisle seat previously until there were some last-minute changes and she grabbed it...Or perhaps a friend cautioned her that Delta has cramped seats...Who knows...Does not matter.
The gate staff gave away her seat. They did not uphold their end of the contract.
Real story...The other passengers did not book early enough to get 3 seats together, they got 2 together...So they fussed and airline caved to them moving Ann...The airline is pissed because Ann has a national platform.
Sorry, the family should have sucked it up...Why iconvenience someone for a NY to FL flight? For crying out loud it was not an 18 hour global flight and the girl was not 8—she was likely 18 or 19. And as I pointed out to you last night, I suspect if they had politely asked Ann if she would consider trading seats (like you say you are so willing to do), she would have done so.
What is worse than the treatment by the attendants on the ground is the absolutely obnoxious condescending corporate response to Ann which does fuel the fire that perhaps this was a politically motivated stunt.
The question on everyone’s mind...what is in this consistent defense of all airline behavior for you? Stock? Career?
I did not defend United in their violent actions against Dr. Dao.
However, in the Coulter case, there was no violence.
Furthermore, I do not understand why anyone would believe that an airline has no rights to change a seating assignment nor do I see any regulation or policy that would grant Coulter preferential treatment in such a situation.
Well, I suggest you re-read because if you pay for a premium seat, you are supposed to be guaranteed that seat. I actually called my Go-To airline, Alaska Airlines, and they confirmed that if you pay for first class, you actually are guaranteed first class. If you pay for a upgraded room seat you are guaranteed that seat...The only time that might change is if you had to do a plane swap or something like that...So you are not correct unless you have specific information for Delta.
So if I pay for first class, I actually AM GUARANTEED first class—same for extra legroom seats.
You seem to point out in most posts about fact that everyone ends up there at same time...So how would you feel if you had booked a cruise with a nice balcony suite cabin only to find out that at the last minute yours has been given to someone else and you are on a lower level with a port hole...Well, you get there at the same time don’t you? Are you saying you would not have a problem with that?
Again, seems you really have a disconnect with reality going on here...maybe you are a big airlines booster due to some vested interest or you just enjoy it.
Furthermore, I do not understand why anyone would believe that an airline has no rights to change a seating assignment nor do I see any regulation or policy that would grant Coulter preferential treatment in such a situation.
Oh, BTW, I did happen to read a tweet of Ann’s stating that she periodically reviewed her seating options, so my guess is she was looking for a specific seat or type of seat.
You indicate you are fairly well traveled, so you are aware that there are websites that evaluate seating for planes...likely she was using them.
So what I posted before is likely correct that she was probably not able to find the seat she wanted until 24 hours before takeoff.
For most of us here, it is not that it is about Ann Coulter personally, and she is not expecting “preferential treatment.” It is about the fact that she has the platform to speak for all who have been on the end of the short stick with the airlines.
I'm quite sure a lot more claim to contribute anonymously than actually do so.
W.P. for short.
I love the ridicule. Those people are so misguided and aggressively ignorant they deserve ridicule at every possible turn. Unfortunately...they are pretty impervious to ridicule, because that would require a less self-centered world view, but that is too much to ask.
So we have to make do with ridiculing for our own edification!
The bottom line is, if you buy and pay for a specific seat on a flight, then that is what they owe you. Otherwise, it’s breach of contract. Period.
Flying basically sucks these days, with tight seating based on the dimensions of a typical 10 year old, and horrible service in-flight. And that’s on top of the public groping procedure. I can hop in my car and go just about anywhere I want, any time I want, and I can carry my sidearm if I want unencumbered. And with plenty of legroom, shoulder room, hip room, and headroom.
