How ringless spam voicemails became a partisan issue

If there’s anything good about ringless voicemails, it’s the fact that they bring people together. These voicemails that simply appear on your phone seem to invite universal hatred. Indeed, the FCC has gotten almost 2,800 complaints about ringless voicemails in June alone. Among the complaints: lost business due to spam clogging the mailbox, added data costs from checking messages, mailboxes flooded to capacity unable to receive messages from family.

Article was from awhile back but I couldn't find it in search. I've been wondering about voicemails that suddenly show up on my cellphone, which I don't remember ringing, that then cost me money to listen to and delete. Mystery solved but I'm still pissed off.

Why does it cost you money to listen to and delete voicemail? From my first cell phone to today I’ve never been charged to listen to my voicemail.

The Republican establishment proves once again how stupid and tone deaf they are.

Let’s primary every Republican in favor of voice mail spam. Of course, they don’t care. They have peons to clean out their voice mail.

I’m using an AT&T prepaid GO Phone (~ $9 per month) and I get charged for my cellphone voicemails.

“On May 18, the Republican National Committee got involved, filing comments with the FCC in support of All About the Message saying the “delivery of a voice message directly to a voicemail box does not constitute a call,” and is not subject to telephone consumer protection rules. RNC chief counsel John R. Phillippe, Jr. wrote that a contrary ruling “would have serious consequences for the First Amendment rights of those engaged in political communication via telephone.”

What idiots at the RNC really think sending out spam voicemail is going to win people over?

Because when the voicemail fills up it stops saving additional calls.

If it fills up with spam, the person never gets all their legitimate calls.

That is money lost for a contractor.

IOW: “We at the RNC insist on being able to spam voicemail with ‘Get Out the Vote’ calls every November, and ask for money at all other times!”

Yeah...THAT’S a winning platform!

Automated calls should be eliminated, Robot call machines outlawed, and unsolicited phone calls get fined $25000 per occurrence.
I hate telemarketers!!!

I guess one advantage to living in the boonies on the fringe of the LTE network is that I’ve never received one of dem critters.

Most landline junk calls have a long pause activated by repeated “hello”s from the unfortunate recipient.

Here’s what I do:

Phone rings.

“Hello, ______s”

Silence.

“3 - 2 - 1 - GOODBYE”

if I’m in a good mood.

Otherwise it is

“3 - 2 - 1 - FU”

(not abbreviated)

Get them on the line and say, “ wait a minute someone’s at the door” and set the phone on the table. As long as your end is open, they can’t hangup. Slows their calls down.
Or my favorite, state talking in spanish
