The Best thing about Rand's arguments against ACA is: he points out the rent seeking and crony capitalism it involves.

Rand does not "talk" cuts to poor or say repeal will harm sick people; instead he rightly points out that we have lost competition in health insurance, due to LOBBYING, Corporate Welfare - and how we all will win, including lower/middle income folks, we we restore the competitive element to this industry.

THAT IS A WINNER ARGUMENT -- if we want "Reagan Democrats" to come back and support freedom, free enterprise...

Love Rand Paul on this issue, totally support his stance against GOP failure to REPEAL. The fact that Congress exempts itself from the "new" bill - that alone says volumes to the average Joe too.

McConnell has 50 possible votes; e.g., the Republicans minus Rand Paul and Susan Collins. Rand Paul says the porridge is too hot, and Susan Collins says it’s too cold. McConnell’s going to rely on Ted Cruz to make the porridge acceptable to the conservatives even though it’s so ladled with continued subsidies that Rand Paul finds it unpalatable.

Failure probably means the Democrats propose a simple bailout of Obamacare that fetches Susan Collins and at least a couple other Republican votes in the Senate. They need 51 Senators. We need 50 Senators and the Vice President.

We dodged a bullet last year, electing Trump and not Hillary president. But, we don’t have a lot of weak sisters in the House and in the Senate. Trump can and is doing a lot in terms of executive actions and nominations to the federal courts. But, regarding matters requiring Congressional action, this is like the trench warfare of WWI.

And thereby take ownership of the failure

I don't care about their political games of who takes ownership. I suspect that's true across the political spectrum. If they want to get re-elected forever, they should enact a solution. Not having solved it by now means any positive effects of fixing it won't be apparent before the next election.

Republicans, mostly because of Portman, are making a big mistake. The opioid epidemic is horrific; we all know that. OH voters among others are clamoring for a solution. So the 'pubs are going to throw billions of dollars at fixing the opioid crisis. The problem is that nobody knows what's got any acceptable level of success at curing addiction, except people themselves coming to grips with it before it kills them. These billions of dollars are going to create another medical sacred cow with huge profits to the elite, and maybe a few success stories to try to justify their existence. Besides that, it's conceivable it will make the problem worse. Overall, Narcan has. It's saved some individuals, but its use has enabled bad behavior.

Ted Cruz actually has a step in the right direction, and it's driving the masters nuts. Offer low cost minimal policies alongside Nazi Health Care. That would create a market for low-cost alternatives for health care.

re: Rand Paul. All through the campaign, I got the feeling that DJT would've stepped back if one of the dwarfs had shown he/she had what it takes. I thought it would be Rand Paul, with a nice mix of ending warmongering/ privacy/ jobs for impoverished areas/ his dad's passion about ending Federal Reserve lunacy.

Instead, he got hissy and negative about Trump, which made him seem very much part of the establishment. I couldn't believe he made a mistake like that. I thought he was the one who would've figured it out. Instead, he wrote of the "mad as *ell vote" by not showing cognizance of why we Deplorables support Trump.

JMHO

The garbage they’ve thrown up is not a solution. It merely transfers from Democrats to Republicans the assignation of blame for ACA failure.

If Republicans want to get re-elected they will keep their promise and repeal ACA. No half-measures. Repeal it 100%. They’ve been saying they will repeal ACA for almost a decade. The moment of truth arrived and they had nothing. Six months have passed and all they’ve produced are half measures. Not only are they breaking their promise, they’re setting themselves up for defeat. But it’s even worse than that. Figures such as Paul Ryan repeatedly assert that their bill repeals ACA when it most certainly does not. In this he is no different than Bill Clinton wagging his finger as he lies to my face.

Don’t kid yourselves - Rand Paul must be considered one of the main boosters of Obamacare at this point, as he has refused to compromise to get a deal.

Following Paul just insures Obamacare is the law forever. Which is what he really wants.

There are too many RINOs in the Senate. We need to elect more conservative Republican senators in order to finally repeal and not replace 0bamacare.

So you are saying we need an update?

Give us Congress and we will repeal Obamacare
Give us Congress and the Senate and we will repeal Obamacare
Give us Congress, the Senate and the POTUS and we will repeal Obamacare
So now you want to add:
Give us Congress, the Senate, the POTUS and get rid of the RINOs and we will replace Obamacare?

How many times are you going to try kicking the football, Charlie Brown?

You are a fool. If this bill passes, it’ll be called Trumpcare and will destroy the GOP in 2018. I don’t care about a “win”.

Seriously??

No really..

SERIOUSLY?

The GOPe is trying to make things worse by tweaking Obamacare and taking ownership of it.

Rand is trying to force them to do what they said. REPEAL it. Not make it worse.

Fine tuning a concept based on false premises is not wisdom. Even if now is not a time when we can radically reduce the unconstitutional Federal Role in civilian health care; the very discussion that accompanies the efforts to better tune what should never have been, is ultimately a distraction from what we should be discussing.

See Tactics For Victory. Ultimately, if we focus on the mistaken premises, we will be in a better position to maximize the options we need to begin to claw out of the make believe world that our Left-intimidated politicians have constructed.

Once it’s dead, the free market can be unleashed. Seems like Trump would favor this scenario.

“The problem is that nobody knows what’s got any acceptable level of success at curing addiction”

Addiction is based on opioid mimicking of fundamental human biochemistry that is pleasurable for millions of Americans.

No cure for opioid addiction should be expected.

People kick addictions (to avoid jail), but generally relapse.

The law needs to adjust to biochemical reality.

Addiction is what careless people who do not heed warnings against opiate use (and their loved ones) have to live with, and not die of.

The buprenorphine/naloxone combination works well for most people. People with severe physical pain may need to be on methadone, a pain reliever.

Federal law needs to be changed so buprenorphine/naloxone prescriptions are renewable by all physicians.

There is a severe shortage of physicians that call legally write buprenorphine/naloxone prescriptions (they have to take training and get certified) and that take Medicaid.

Most physicians in private practice want about $250 for the initial prescription and $100 for each monthly renewal.

Families of addicted people can often scrape up $250 initially, but poor families struggle (and often fail) to come up with an extra $100 monthly.

The welfare state will not be rolled back piecemeal.

It is like cancer, the whole nasty tumor has to be cut out.

Because of lack of planning and politics as usual, we probably will have the cancer reduce our country to the level of Argentina.

“unconstitutional Federal Role in civilian health care”

Modern health care rests on the increasingly expensive foundation of Article I, Section 8 federally patented drugs.

These drugs, currently often at $25,000 to $400,000/year per patient, have to be paid for.

Those drugs advertised on TV quite often cost your “insurance” company more each year than a new car would.

Take your pick:
1. federal price controls on drugs
2. TRIPS Article 31 compulsory licensing
3. massive federal subsidies to “coverage” providers

I’m 58 and I need the best insurance companies can offer at about $150/month, if unsubsidized.

It is not the job of the federal or any state government to prevent a private enterprise from selling me a (barely) affordable product that could save my life.

Coverage mandates of all kinds that could result in my needless death need to go.
