China told Japan on Friday to "get used to it" after it flew six warplanes over the Miyako Strait between two southern Japanese islands in a military exercise. ...

The Chinese defense ministry said it was "legal and proper" for its military aircraft to operate in the airspace and that it would continue to organize regular training exercises according to "mission requirements".

"The relevant side should not make a fuss about nothing or over-interpret, it will be fine once they get used to it," the ministry said in a statement.

The Miyako Strait is between Japan's islands of Miyako and Okinawa, to the northeast of self-ruled Taiwan, which China claims as its own.

Nothing to be alarmed about.
Japan can handle this.

China is flexing it muscles in East Asia. China is flexing its muscles in South Asia. China is flexing its muscles in the Pacific. China is firmly established in Africa and looking to expand into Latin America and Mexico. Perfect. Get used to it.

MY response, were I the Japs:

UNMANNED drones, armed with air-to-air missiles programmed to follow the bombers—500 feet higher and about a quarter-mile behind.

I hope Japan does (and says) the same.

If only Thomas Dewey had defeated Truman we wouldn't be having this discussion. What if, what if, what if, …

This man would have been allowed to finish the job:

So long as China “gets used to” the close passage of US Navy vessels and others in close proximity to the artificial islands in the South China Sea.

The South China Sea is NOT exclusively for the passage of Chinese vessels and airplanes alone.

There is no comparison between the military might of China and India’s. China is at least 30 years ahead. Also, the Chinese infrastructure makes Indian infrastructure look like its still in bronze age. It is a well understood fact within the Indian circles, but they are powerless at this time.

They’re next-door neighbors, so occasional proximity is almost a given.

Pacifism only works if every other nation out there is also pacifist. China is aggressively expansionist and sees all of East and South Asia as its sphere of influence, along with much of the Indian Ocean. Like all of China's neighbors, Japan must arm itself and stand up to China, or look forward to a century or two of vassalage to China.

The US should do everything in its power to help the nations which are on the front-lines against China, just as we once armed and supported the nations of Western Europe against the Soviets. If those nations fall into China's orbit, China's power grows while our's shrinks - and we will be next on China's list to lean on.

Most people are unfamiliar with the small Miyako island chain, wich is far south of Okinawa, very close to Taiwan.

One of these islands is home to 40 thousand or so Japanese Nationals, a big airport and the land is completely uncontested.

there is also a new Japanese air defense radar on a tiny Island closest to Taiwan.

most people believe that the Miyako Islands could only be taken if Okinawa also were taken so that has some pretty serious implications.

Why would the Chinese need to take Okinawa first if the Miyako Islands are closer to China? Is it because Taiwan would protect them?
