Missile launched by North Korea was intermediate range, not ICBM – Russian Defense Ministry
RT -- Russian TV ^ | July 4, 2017 | Kim Hong-Ji, Reuters

The Russian Defense Ministry has stated that North Korea launched an intermediate range missile on Tuesday morning. The missile flew around 535 kilometers, reaching an altitude of 510 kilometers, and fell into the Sea of Japan, according to military data.

The missile test carried out by Pyongyang on Tuesday morning did not pose a threat to Russia, the defense ministry said in a statement.

North Korea claimed that it had successfully launched its first intercontinental ballistic missile on Tuesday morning. Pyongyang said its Hwasong-14 ICBM flew some 933 kilometers in 39 minutes reaching an altitude of 2,802 kilometers, according to the country’s state television.

An intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launched from North Korea would be able to reach and strike the United States, as such missiles can cover a distance of more than of 5,500 kilometers, while intermediate-range ballistic missiles (IRBM) have a much shorter range and pose no threat to the US.

Big difference. NKorea is trying to show strength and power, but everyone can see that they are just pretenders.

What the range on this missile was, should not be confused with it’s capabilities.

There is also the possibility that Russia is simply trying to throw a wet blanket on U.S. claims, knowing full well this was an ICBM.

Russian and China are dating and I suspect Russia wants to be seen as the good potential step-father.

The Russians say they tracked the missile and it was only intermediare range missile.

“The missile flew around 535 kilometers, reaching an altitude of 510 kilometers, and fell into the Sea of Japan, according to military data. “

This time I believe the Russians, rather than N. Korea.

I don’t believe either of them.

While this claim may be true, these two and China are the last people I would trust on that point.

China and Russia would love nothing more than to empower N.K. or Iran for blackmail of the U.S. purposes.

I don’t care what the stats of this test were.

If the SR 71 Blackbird flew at 1100 mph and maintained a maximum ceiling of 35,000 feet, would that indicate it was the top speed and flight ceiling of the aircraft?

You know it gets old having to read constantly about the nuke threat of North Korea. This little scumbag of a Nation led by a Madman will get to launch 1 missile. That will be the last missile of any kind nuclear or otherwise the little prick launches because his country will within 30 minutes becomes a pile of radioactive waste.

I think many people don’t actually realize how powerful America really is. There are no Nations or combination of Nations who can attack America and not be totally completely absolutely annihilated within a couple of days. Sure we will be damaged and suffer casualties, many casualties but they will cease to exist as a viable country.

I’m adding another 10 shares of RTN and 10 shares of NOC to my portfolio.

There is also the surety that we could read the the fine print on the outside of the missile from our satellites, so we certainly know it's actual trajectory. But unlike Obola who had diarrhea of the mouth, Trump isn't going to let anyone know what we know. And I suspect we know not only when Kim Jong Un farts, but what he's had to eat recently. I expect to awaken one day in the not too distant future to read that Fat Boy has had a cruise missile enema overnight.

Well, that is the “optimistic” view at least.

The fact is that NK borders on both Russia and China. If NK were to become a “radioactive waste” that would mean that a whole lot of fallout would likely be landing on Russia and China as well (not to mention a ton of refugees).

The outcome of that wouldn’t be good for the US or the rest of the world.

DO, you are way, way off. I just came back home on a trip in one of my BiL’s corporate jets and we were at 32,000 ft. and Mac .907 (about 625 mph at that altitude). FY, the SR-71 flew nominally at 85,000 ft @ Mach 3.2. And those are the numbers the government is willing to share. It quite likely was faster than Mach 3.2. The problem with going faster is getting rid of the heat. The other problem is that the higher you go, the narrower is the speed envelope. It has been said that the SR-71 at altitude has a speed envelope of about 20 mph between stall and VNE.

Take a look: https://www.blackbirds.net/bbirdm&f.html

The Russians said this right after it happened. Way to early to draw accurate conclusions.

Oh. Well, in that case, I guess it's OK to go back to sleep.

It took the Russians to tell you that? I could have told you, as could any dime store intelligence analyst.

"Big difference."

Agreed

"NKorea is trying to show strength and power, but everyone can see that they are just pretenders.

That part I don't agree with. They can leave every missile they have on the ground and they'd still roll across the DMZ as though it were nothing more than a speed bump. If we got into it with them it would be a long protracted battle.

Like Libya, put a conventional missile in his bedroom window. Put the second in their general staff conference room.
