What If Donald Trump Doesn’t Sink the Republican Party?
National Review ^ | June 25, 2017 | DAVID HARSANYI

Posted on 06/25/2017 6:27:43 PM PDT by E. Pluribus Unum

He appears not to be as much of a problem as the Democrats hoped.

What if Republican voters who don’t particularly like President Donald Trump are also able to compartmentalize their votes? What if they dislike Democrats more than they do the president? What if, rather than being punished for Trump’s unpopularity, local candidates are rewarded for their moderation? This would be a disaster for Democrats. And Tuesday’s runoff election in Georgia’s Sixth District shows that it might be possible.

Now, had Jon Ossoff come out ahead of Karen Handel, the coverage would have painted this as a game-changing moment: a referendum on conservatism itself, a harbinger of a coming liberal wave, and a rejection of Trump’s disastrous presidency. It would have illustrated that Democrats had figured out how to flip those suburban and affluent Republicans who aren’t crazy about the president.

Perhaps some of that will still play out during the midterms, because one race (or even four) doesn’t tell us everything we need to know. Every district is unique. Still, there are definitely ominous signs for Democrats.

It was going to be Trump or Hillary.

You seem to be for the latter.

The Rats and the Nevertrumpers have been in deep denial about why Donald Trump was elected POTUS. It’s as if they haven’t comprehended that 63 million of us gladly voted for Trump and our loyalty to him is stronger than ever.

When the Rats and NeverTrumpers attack President Trump, I consider that an attack on me also.

I will admit I was not excited over trump and thought that there was no alternative but Trump with Hillary the other candidate and the suprema court having members that will be retiring. I am wonderfully surprised everyday by his grasp of the presidency and have this to say....how much respect do you have for those that criticize Trump. I look at those that don’t like him and see everything that is wrong in politics the last 50 years.

He can change the number of justices allowed on the court and flood the court will the political types he wants, if the Senate confirms them.

No. I was and still am for Cruz.
They WERE other choices, and to say that, "It was going to be Trump or Hillary." it just not being honest.
With a 32%, 32%, and a 36% outcome, it could have just as easily been a 3rd party candidate that won.
In that election, that was NOT out of the realm of possibilities.

Yosemitest's fails to grasp political reality and chooses instead to live in his own delusional dream world... The picture below may help explain how he and his friends at the National Review reached their conclusions:

Well, it is very likely that Trump will have more than one Supreme appointment and he is also going to be able to fill a number of lower court judges as well.

He has not been in office for even 6 months and has endured major resistance—from his own party, the obama holdovers, the media, and the democrats.

Perhaps a little more patience on your part might be in order?

Oh and I forgot to mention, and perhaps most important, President Trump has shined a light on the corruption in Washington—the Elite lobbyists, media, uniparty, democrats, deep state, etc. No other president has ever done what he has done in that regard...a new president will not undo that.

More ignorance. Trump has signed 40 laws as of today. NOT EOs, LAWS. Most recently to make it easier to fire VA employees and protect whistleblowers from retaliation.

I don't have YOUR vices.
Unlike most Trump supporters, I can actually look up ORIGINAL SOURCES to find the truth.
I don't believe every LIE that Trump spews out.

I would agree to some extent.
But I do NOT trust Trump, after what I've seen from his past and original sources, especially when it comes to the Constitution.

People have been "shining the light of truth" (a phrase originated by Rush) on the corruption of Washington for decades.
It's just that most of the Trumpsters weren't listening, because they were too busy watching "The Apprentice" and drinking beer, to be involved in politics.

Or, are you just repeating what you've heard ?

What if?

I sailed an ocean, unsettled ocean
Through restful waters and deep commotion
Often frightened, unenlightened
Sail on, sail on sailor

Hate to break it to everyone but the Republican party was sunk until Donald Trump came along

Exactly - and they are busily trying to deflate the life-jackets he provided them.
