I know it was a rhetorical question but we’ve had this debate/discussion on this thread many times over the past many years.
First of all, you need to get in invite to be on a show. Top national officials can probably ask for an appearance and will be granted one, usually. But they’ve got to ask.
For all the rest, I’m convinced the drivebys chose an agenda to cover for their Sunday show, and then pick the guest to deliver just what they want them to say.
Need a Republican who goes against Trump and any policy in the past week Trump has proposed?

And, to a lesser extent, Linda Graham, Ben Sasse, Susan Collins, Jeff Flake, John Cronyn, Paul Ryan, etc.
It helps the drivebys EMMENMSELY to have an actual Republican do the denouncing of whatever conservative policy is that week, or latest lie about Trump, because they appear balanced. the Low Information Voters lap that up. If they only had democrats on, well, people expect them to denounce conservatism/Republicans/Trump with every breathe!
There are a few good democrat actors that look all pious and sad about conservative policies or Trump such as Adam Schift, Bernie Sanders, etc. They get on just be asking, or even the producers asking them to be on. They’ll always do the MSM bidding.
STILL, if top conservatives ask/demand to be on, they’ll get booked. But they have to be top. Too bad we didn’t have more of them. Newt is one. Trump, obviously. Pence could go on more. Who else? But they have to be willing and good at fighting, and not letting the host/interviewer talk over them.

Tapper, Chuckie, et al are being as artful as they can to twist things around. From Trump being investigated based on anonymous sources that have been proven to be a lie over and over, even from comey himself, to insinuating Trump is at fault for a leftwing nut shooting republicans. You just have to shake your head.
I got to thinking. What better way to knock the WaPo story down? A direct denial right out of the gate? Or give the rest of the press time and a reason to advance the WaPo story?
Look at all the energy spent (on both sides, unfortunately) on "Mueller has a conflict" (but only if he is investigating obstruction), and "What if Trump fires Rosenstein and Mueller?" (when ALL the evidence points to Trump wanting a GOOD investigation to proceed and conclude QUICKLY).
Funny stuff indeed. The press is literally broadcasting a make-believe land, and either they think it is reality, or they are the biggest liars on the planet. I pick mendacious.

I thought Rosenstein was on Trump’s side.
Gingrich points out that first four names appointed by Mueller were all Clinton protectors.
The ugliest woman reads some stupid quote by some stupid Dem says the “charges” against Trump are worse than those against Bill Clinton.
Gingrich rightfully points out THERE ARE NO CHARGES!
The Democrat way is to keep lying and eventually it becomes the truth.
Then get the ugliest political talk show host to ask silly questions, even, if needed, bawl like a baby when Hillary loses.
