Anti-American Express Helped Inspire Today's Shooting
American Express | 6/14/2017 | Member Since 1987

Posted on 06/14/2017 3:13:02 PM PDT by Always A Marine

American Express today again refused to withdraw its sponsorship of The Public Theater's adaptation of Julius Caesar, which is now playing in New York's Central Park. The play depicts the brutal assassination of President Donald Trump as he is stabbed to death by multiple assassins. Other theater sponsors, including Delta Air Lines and Bank of America, withdrew their sponsorship from the theater earlier this week.

Despite today's attempted massacre of two dozen Republican lawmakers by a leftist gunman provoked by violent anti-Trump rhetoric, American Express stands firm in its corporate support of The Public Theater. In a phone conversation with Member Since 87, American Express denied any link between this morning's terrorist attack and AMEX's financing of the anti-Trump violence depicted in the play. Concerned American Express customers are being referred to Corporate Social Responsibility crisis managers, who may only be contacted by email.

I will no longer use their card.

Be bold and cancel your card. It is a status symbol you do not need

I use AMEX and plan to keep it and that means I support the play that suggests we kill Trump? Quite the leap...

I also go to work on a road that makes connections to other roads that leads to other states and to New York which can get me to the NYC and Central Park where the dumb ass play is.

Doesn’t mean I’m going....

Not a leap at all. You are funding the people who are supporting the killing of Trump.

I know the AMEX card gives you some 'status' But they are supporting evil, and you should just walk away

I have a AE card but never use that card. So I guess I
am okay.

The credit card companies make their money when you use it. They get a percentage of the sale. AMEX usually gets a little higher percentage than many of the other cards. It’s why a lot of places don’t take it.

Did you call the 800 # on the back of the card? I am disgusted by this, have had AM EX for decades.

Yes, that's the same number to call for any AMEX services, but you just have to repeat "Representative" or "Operator" until the robovoice puts you through to a live person.

American Express is a quality organization and has provided me with outstanding service for over 40 years. I genuinely hope AMEX does the right thing in this case, because America now stands on the precipice of open rebellion and this play glorifies the assassination of our president. maddog55 correctly points out that Delta Air Lines and Bank of America have committed other sins, but I would counter that there are some depths to which ordinary sinners refuse to descend.

It’s a convenient 0% credit card which must be paid in full paid monthly which works for me. Nothing more nothing less and not sure I get the “status” comment. It’s a credit card that works for me.

If you boycott every company that doesn’t support your point of view you’d be hard pressed to do anything. As I mentioned in another post when someone mentioned Delta and BOA dropped their sponsorship:

Delta airlines supports gay marriage and lesbian and gay travel with a pride take flight web page.

Bank of America gives bank accounts and credit cards to illegals and funds planned parenthood.

Supporting the LHBTQRSTUVWXYZ crowd and funding Planned Parenthood I guess is ok now for some folks.

Where do you draw the line and where do you stop?

These type boycotts do little if anything. It’s another useless feelgood measure kinda like putting a support flag on a facebook page after every terrorist attack and the #wesupport whatever BS so you can say you did something. That’s about as lame as it gets and does nothing.

Focus on the real problem..

Cut up you AAMEX and switch to Discover. They’re great, and they work fine for me. You also get cashback rewards with them.

Am Ex said they are not sponsoring the Shakespeare Julius Ceaser play. (Just talked to a customer rep this morning). What do you make of this post:

AMEX keeps saying that they are not funding the play. But I’ve heard nothing to say that they aren’t funding the organization itself. Money is fungible ... the organization putting on the play just puts AMEX money in their left front pocket and take out money to fund it from the right front pocket. That gives them all deniability.

As BlueLancer just pointed out, money is fungible so AMEX is trying to get away with a half-truth by claiming it funds the whole season and not this specific play. Delta Air Lines and Bank of America could have made the same wimpy claim but neither did, so I call BS on American Express.

And I can't resist one more comment, georgiegirl. "Hey, there!"
