In hi power competition I believe any center fire cartridge is considered “high-power”.
Rimfires are not even though some of them are more powerful than bottom line centerfires.

Aside from what is known of Scalise: (who is said to have been shot in the “hip” maybe higher (and it was his right hip from the UK daily mail video of him going into the helo. Scalise was on second base, fired at from along the fence by the 3rd base line- if a straight line from 3rd to 2nd is 90 feet then the distance from 3rd to other side of the fence say 25 feet- a little over 110 feet).

Walked toward home plate shooting away, a pitcher was on the mound 60 feet from homeplate, a batter at home and a catcher— 90 feet from 3rd to home. Most of his shots (extrapolating) he was within 100 feet maybe closer. The other known (Officer Bailey was shot in the leg, don’t know about Officer Crystal) hits were in an ankle or lower extremity. Barth was hit in the ankle and Cong. Mo Brooks (who btw is running for Senator of AL replacing Sessions) took off his belt to tourniquet the lower leg (may have save Barth’s life, not bleed out).

The guy was 5’6 and shooting from his shoulder or possibly idiot style from waist. So the shots were generally lower, and trajectoried lower. In the NY Post phone video you can hear a lot of richochet coming off the concrete of the dugout— quite audible. It is fortunate he was 1.) a lousy shot, but it only takes one and 2.)the two Capitol Police security were there and both well trained with pistol.

We’ll know more later. And yeah, an SKS (if chinee particularly) is not particularly accurate, and was never intended as a sniper. The comments at UK Daily Mail (which has phenomenal photos of this guy’s van he’d rigged as a secret camper) kept saying it was an M-1 Garand.

NRA HIGH POWER RIFLE RULES lists 7.62 and 5.56 as high powered. I think a rifle chambered for .22 or a pistol round is not high powered but anything above that is.

Yep, I saw that guy on AON. He seemed pretty credible. He gave a much better description of the situation than I would have. He thought it looked like an AK.

Also, want to say. This guy came in his van two months ago, got a ups box, showered at the YMCA and has a quite queer facebook friend who manages the Duncan branch of the Alexandria Public library, right near the baseball park.

This guy came to Alexandria for “other things” shall we say potentially, and got some intel help, as it was not commonly known they regularly played this field. Point: he had help, this was not lone wolf.

Again, reference the UK Daily Mail article- quite thorough, lots of photos including his DUI on NY’s Eve 1992. Pissed off looking then. There will have to be an official inquiry.
Meanwhile WAPO putting out more crap- that now mueller is investigating trump himself for obstruction of justice— total fantasy to distract.

Don’t be telling the “journalists” that a magazine and a clip are not the same thing. ha ha ha Don’t want to confuse them.......with facts

My 22 Marlin is an assault rife if I beat a CNN commentator over the head with it - assault with a deadly weapon.

And so on and so on.

I heard that interview and he also said that the particular rifle was illegal in Illinois! That would only be true if the weapon was fully automatic or a 3 round burst.

Illinois may have a lot of issues but you can still legally own a semi-auto rifle, at least everywhere but Chicago. In fact there are at least 2 excellent companies here that make great rifles, DSA for the FAL and Springfield Armory for the M1A and now the AR-15.

I think a congress critter on scene refferred to it as “obviously a high gauge of rifle” while talking to ABC.

I have known too many who were put down by a .22LR.

My uncle had a WW II German sniper rifle that fired 22 cal rimfire,it was deadly accurate, heavy too.

Most common 22 LR is “High Velocity”

The 22 cal is deadly in the right hands check some of these pro shooters.

he .30-30 is good enough to have the reputation of taking more deer than all other cartridges combined.

Not counting poachers that commonly use 22LR.

Not exactly.

IIRC - the SKS takes a 7.63x39 while the AK-47 is chambered for the 7.62x54 round.

The difference is how much powder is behind the round.

Jeez.

Those poo pooing the 7.62 x 39 round... it’s the round most commonly used by our enemy in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria.

It is usually a 122 grain bullet. We mostly shoot 55 FMJ.

Rule of thumb:
American round out of a M4 Carbine is usually 5.56 or .223 55FMJ = messy, difficult wounds, if hitting soft flesh, usually powers through due to it’s high fps rating.

Russian/Foreign round out of a AK-47/74 or SKS in this case is usually a 7.62 x 39 round that is a 122 grain bullet, that has a stronger impact and can cause much more damage due to it’s lower fps rating and larger size.

In other words, we kill with a much more humane round. More surgical. Our enemy maims with their steel jacket 122 grain slugs.

A 7.62mm = 30 caliber. So a 30-06 is a 7.62 in caliber. HOWEVER the 7.62x39 is NOT the same as a 30-06 round. 7.62x39—with a much shorter case.... was designed for close action and is between a classic rifle round and a pistol round. It was intended for close action combat, but not accurate over 100m.

A 30-06 in AN M1 Garrand on the other hand, IS high powered. Russian ammo sizes are also found in 7.62x54 (with a longer case=more powder) which is comparable to a 30-06, and is considered “high powered.” The common Mosin-Nagant uses that ammo.
